Ambient Light On BMW E90

Recently I saw in a post on facebook someone who had this type of ambient lighting in their car.

Does anyone have any idea how it was made?

There are kits you can order online Ebay/Amazon just search "Ambient lighting kit"

From my experience getting the app version vs remote versions are better.

I purchased LED string online (amazon/eBay, don’t recall - was years ago) and the colour match was spot on. Tapped into the 12v led, and this now also dims with the stalk control

And it looks like top of image was cut off… the part showing the LED strip

Will try to upload something better later.

Ahhh gotcha…. My friend has something similar to mine, but it’s full customizable RGB and appears translucent when off. Maybe that would be closer to what you’re looking for.

I personally liked the orange accent colour even when off for my own.

Good luck!

The one he is using is called an EL wire, not the same as an LED strip.
Here is a newer one https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003666858928.html where the diffuser is translucent black not white, so it would really be hidden especially if you have a black interior.

I wanted to install this kit where the existing ambient lighting is but afraid it wouldn’t put out enough light to make the retrofit with it. The factory lighting I g is so dim

If you have an E92, they do sell upgraded ones specifically for the E92.
Let me know what you have right now to what are you trying to upgrade, I might have come across something.

What ambient lights then are you talking about? Th E90 sedan didn't have door ambient lights. Only the E92 coupe did. I thought you are referring to door ambient light strip.

All photos on this thread are of aftermarket solutions. Nothing here is OEM.
The E90 doesn't have any ambient light strips. only the E92 has ambient light strips on the door cards. Both E90 and E92 don't have any dashboard ambient lighting. F series got that.

Who in this thread is saying this is a OEM solution? lol. The guy you're replying to simply said it 'looks' OEM, aka not your typical janky AliExpress garbage.

We all know e90s never came with ambient lighting on the dash or on the door panels.

I think he was responding to this as well

Yes, I was replying to Ssopus inquiry since the comment said "I wanted to install this kit where the existing ambient lighting is" which indicates it's an E92. I even quoted Ssopus in my reply.

But back to the thread's main content, yes, the LED strip is really nice. Alixpress does sell a black translucent "tape" that I would probably buy at some time to turn the white diffuser into black so it blends in much better with my black interior. But if you are buying it now, I would go for the black one already. It's actually a very nice kit.
