Placebo: Yes or No: 330i exhaust flap: Unhooked vs connected

So...looking for an opinion on this:

Summer 2014 I unplugged the vacuum line from my exhaust flap and enjoyed the new found sound

2 weeks ago, after getting a bit sick and tired for the sound, I plugged the line back into the exhaust valve

To my shock, the car feels like it has gained some pep- Similar to a charcoal filter delete.

Placebo? or no?

Garage List
I tested this by disconnecting the plug (so had stored errors from this, anyway), but the initial smile from the extra noise was soon replaced with a frown from it just being annoying, so probably only had it like this for a week or so. Can't say that I noticed any difference in performance either way.
