328i + ???? = MORE POWER
In the parlance of a recent poster, I'd like to give my 328i "more balls". I agree with him that the 328i leaves a lot to be desired in terms of raw power and visceral feel.
I've done some poking around but, aside from a cold air intake mod and an exhaust swap, I haven't seen any direct engine mods that would add a fair number or % of HP. Is such a thing available for the 328i? If so, is it easy to do and are people having a positive response towards it? Thanks! |

+1000. You can try to force feed it, but good luck adapting the VANOS.... Buy another car.

I would suggest trading for a 335 if you want "more balls." I did the whole NA tuning thing, pretty hard-core in fact, for years with the E30 and E36. It's a waste if you can step into a faster car for less money than it would cost to make your car that fast. In the end, when you're done spending money on your NA upgrades, you're just going to think "man, I should have just bought a 335...." With the E36 M3, there was no such option, so you were stuck spending thousands trying to extract a fair amount of power. In the end, I spent so much with my NA tunes that I could have bought a SII supercharger kit and a bunch of other stuff.... But I'm older and much smarter now.

i really dont get the logic of making the 328 faster. i mean god damn, you can only go so fast with that car. its not like youre gonna be pulling 13.5's on the 1/4 anytime soon.

The truth is, you won't gain a whole lot for your dollar trying to make the car "fast". you can do a few little things that will help a little bit, like intake/exhaust, but unless someone figures out how to completely reprogram the valvtronic and vanos systems, you are pretty much SOL.
I suggest you concentrate on improving the car's handling instead, which will allow you to drive it faster and have more fun in the turns. But if you are dead set on having a significantly faster car, don't bother trying to mod the 328. just save your money and trade it in for a 335. |

I wonder if the best mod to increase real world performance might be superlight alloy wheels and GFTs.

lol this thread. fail at the start....
OP there aren't many if any mods that will get you huge gains. best bet is to get better suspension and lighter wheels... unless all your intending on doing is going 0-60 fast in a straight line... in which case only the lighter wheels would help

LOL.
But seriously, have you ever seen an E36 with that in it? More power, more torque, less weight, and a center of gravity more towards the rear.... In the spirit of true automotive enthusiasm, THAT is what separates the enthusiasts from the badge whores. |

Well although that's generally the case, some NA cars do respond well to mods. It's just that BMW has already engineered the NA engines very efficiently, so there's not much room for more power extraction.
