I live in Socal and everything is over priced here. I bought mine a couple years ago for 17.5 with 48,000 miles and it's in new condition. I know of 2 local Cali 335d M Sports for sale and the cheapest one is 18,000 the other is 22,000. If I found another one in good condition for under 14,000 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. If you have a 335d M Sport why would you consider selling it for under 17,000? There are only approx. 650 with clear title on the road in America and with all the color combo's each one of those is like a 1 in 10 car unless you got an Alpine White....There was like 350 of those made. This car can become a collector car so easily.....Just start treating it like it's special and others will start to act the same....Next thing you know in a couple years when there is only like 200 with clear titles on the road and you have a 1 of 1 or 1 of 2 the car will be worth $30,000 or more.

To your point, escalating value isn't just about rarity but also increasing appeal. I have a 67 Barracuda that in mint condition might bring 18 to 20 grand. Not near the demand for it even though only about 700 67 Barracuda with 383 engine like mine was built. Compare this to a 1970 Challenger that might have cost $1500 more sticker price (say $3000 vs $4500) and those go for >$40 grand. If it came with a Hemi and VIN in on the block, bam your up to $80 grand. Point is if the car will be sought after when our cars are 15 to 20 yrs old. Diesel politically starting to get a bad name for itself so likely this won't be the case. Then again, we would have all laughed our ass off if someone had said in 2014 DT was going to be pres in 2016. Hard to predict the future based on past data. Out |

Earlier BMW diesels in the US I will note have like the 524td have no collection value. Also sitting on this car until 2031 is a long time, to store. The last 524td which only 1500 were sold in the us sold for $6K and its a 1985 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-bmw-524td-2/ Its only going to be the pristine low milage unmodded examples that may when they are 20-25 years old go up in value. But this isn't a dream car for most people, the population who would buy it would be small. Also there are a ton of these in the rest of the world, so the supply is only limited in the us. I have an X5M E70 as well and I'd say it has the same potential to be collectable as it was the 1st of a breed. Its cars that people (lots of people) dream of owning that go up in value like the older M5's and M3's. Back when they were more ultimate driving machine than ultimate cruising machine. |
