Popping in speakers???
Just bought this car and I'm starting to hate myself. My speakers are making popping/cracking noises even when the car is not on. I knew the speakers were making weird noises before I bought it, but I thought it would be a simple fix. I got a new amp to see if that would work, the amp is not the issue the new amp acted the same way. I checked for water in the trunk and around the amp, there is no sign of water damage. We recently just had a big rain and there is no water there. I was really hoping someone here could help me on what it might be. I also have an SOS malfunction light which I don't care about, but I've seen it as a problem related to the audio in other BMWs. Please comment if you have had this problem, I don't want to go to the stealership
I am buying a loop right now to see if that will work. |

I have the HiFi system, I've been reading and apparently 80% of the time it is the sat radio that fails. I looked on youtube and people fix their sos error and no sound problem with the fiber optic loop. The only problem is these people don't have audio in the videos and I do have audio for music. I really hope it is just the sat radio that failed, I'm waiting on my loop bypass to get here.

Better make sure which modules you have first.
I have a Hi Fi system and when I get and SOS error the sound does not go away . The Hi Fi system uses only analog signals to the amp its not part of the Most Bus system. I would recheck to see which sound system you have. Both systems are pictured in Link 3(original response) In the case of either system you should always start by checking for water in the amp area. Try reseating the connector to the Idrive or pro radio. Noises in the stock system are more likly to come from the Head Unit than the amp as long as the amp is dry. Ok I'm sorry, I don't have HiFi I guess. I only have the standard amp. It is the Black box looking one it is not the long silver one. The paper that came with the car says this, (anti theft am/fm stereo cd/mp3 player audio system with 10 speakers including 2 subwoofers). I do not have navigation and I do not have rear door speakers, just the regular bmw professional. I'm trying to find a plastic pry tool right now to pop out the climate controls and radio. I'm going to replug the wires in the back and see if that solves anything.

Yep the black amp is Hi Fi .
When you start talking about sound systems here you have to be carefull as the US options from 06 to 09 where only Hi Fi and Logic 7(with the Logic 7 being the pay for it option in most years . Easily checked with a Vin checker 676 = hi fi 677 top hi fi aka Logic 7. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...pytm6ui2dWc1zK When prying loose the climate controls do not apply your tool to near the corner edges of the unit as you make break the bezel fi you do. Take your time to work it all around if its stubborn. Last edited by ctuna; 06-14-2019 at 05:01 PM.. |

Should I get a trim removal kit today or wait for the fiber optic loop before I buy it?
I used the link you gave me this is what it says https://prnt.sc/o21apg It's 676 and yes I already kind of warped the bezel I decided to stop before I make it worse..... it is not flush anymore Last edited by Nap; 06-14-2019 at 05:16 PM.. |

I don't think your fiberoptic loop jumper is going to help
you with the noise problem. Also I got two fiberoptic bypasses on amazon for something like 15 bucks. I am convinced you could make a fiber optic jumper with a straw by just releasing the pin from the connector then sticking the ends in such that they point at each other. Pretty much what the Most Bus Hub does. |

I was trying to remove the climate controls with a small flat head screwdriver and a putty knife. This is really aggravating I might just go get the trim removal tool today. I just don't want to spend $20 on a piece of plastic I use one time then it not fix. Maybe I will wait on the loop I don't know. How do you recommend removing the climate controls, I know you said stay away from the corners, should I try to pop it from the top or the sides first? Thank you for your help so far I appreciate it!

There are a bunch of ytube videos on this to . No need to unplug the temp controller there is enough cable to put it to the side when dealing with the radio. Put a towel down so you don't scratch the wood. |

UPDATE
Just wanted to post back and say that it was the satellite radio unit that was failing. Causing weird pops and cracks to come out of my speakers, even when the car was not on. I used the fiber optic loop to bypass it and now its working perfect! |
