Good idea OP.
Can I suggest maybe to change the title into something more appropriate like "Coding package" etc. This will make it easier for people to do searches. Naming as "your contribution" may not make it easier to pop up in searches. if you agree you can message the admin to change the title (maybe sticky it). |

I have a fellow uploading some CD images to my site for me to review. If they have progman on it I'll rip it and throw it up.

Ok, does anyone know what specific elements of Progman are required for coding. The total installation source is like 7GB... I can get away with a few hundred megs here and there, but my ISP will be suspicious if he sees the masses pulling GB upon GB all day :P
If nothing else, I can put the link up upon request, files are on my web server, but I cannot have them constantly accessible.

Care to share the link you followed to ensure you got INPA installed correctly. This one http://www.adrl.co.uk/E39/INPA_5.0.2_Install.pdf has great step by step directions, but then it says Only select BMW Group Rectification programs UK under the part about Ediabas installation. Plus, the download given on this thread already includes NCSEXPERT and EDIABAS, so I'm not sure that section of the directions even applies. |

OK, I got things talking after starting from scratch and downloading Beneliezer's Download Link folder. Then I actually installed INPA via http://www.adrl.co.uk/E39/INPA_5.0.2_Install.pdf. I followed those directions verbatim (including the UK bit). That loaded INPA, NCS-Expert tool v3.0.8(which ws not the same NCS Expert he had in his link), and two other icons I have no idea about (Tool32 and WinKFP) to my XP Mode desktop. Then I created a shortcut for the NCS-Expert WORK folder on my XP Mode desktop. Ediabas verion 6.4.7 is in the C: directory too. I see info about v7.0 and 7.2. Maybe that's a problem for me.
I opened the DATEN folder in NCS-Expert, and the E89 and the files were from 2004. So, I copied and pasted the new E89 files (all 425 of them from BMW Coding Apps v2, which are from 10/4/2011) into the NCS Expert-Daten-E89 folder. I opened Bneliezer's NCS-Expert SGDAT and it only had a file called Cabi.h. I opened his STDAT and hit contained a text document called empty. The working NCS-Expert SGDAT folder is loaded with files from 97-2005 and the STDAT folder has the empty text file too. Not sure if I need to update those??? I plugged my OBD cable in and open INPA and got both black dots (yay). Hit SHIFT + F3 to get to E90, Airbag, and failed Just for shits and grins, I ran through the Engine Script option and it showed N54 wording, but nothing about N55... I'm thinking I need to update something in INPA for N55??? Figured I'd check NCS-Expert anyway, because many others fail the airbag. Low and behold, I made it all the way to loading my VIN and FA info. But when I hit F6 to back out of that, I got another error (this is the first time I even got this far). So, any suggestions on what I'm missing? Last edited by wdlfbio; 02-12-2012 at 02:13 AM.. |

Success
It only took about 2 weeks of dicking around, but I finally got everything working. And I still have dark hair left
I ended up downloading a pretty damn good compilation of everything from phil.harlow's thread on coding a 2011.5. He has a great DIY that dovetails with the top sticky. You can find it here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588311 I already had all the stuff from this thread running, but things weren't all cooperating. So, I updated a bunch of the E89 files in the NCS DATEN, then Beneliezer's EDIABAS that the INPA loaded installed was old, so I pulled the EDIABAS from Phil.harlows files. I also updated the STDAT and SGDAT files. I think that installing the INPA option from Beneliezer's download helped hugely with my cable working in the right port. As it is, I have two COM1 ports listed in my Device Manager. One is a Communications Port COM1 and the other is a USB Serial Port COM1. I set them each up properly with FIFO and data bits at 8 and then latency to 1 on the other setting. i really have no idea which one the cable is using... And I'm not going to F with it either. it's working Plugged the cable in, inserted the key, pushed the button and opened INPA in XP Mode. It took several seconds to get both black dots. Then I ran the airbag and it ran. Hit F5 and that worked. YAY. Closed INPA and Opened NCS-Expert. I kept getting the Can't Open FSW_PSW.MAN error when I backed out of the VIN/FA screen. Then I noticed I had the FSW PSW profile and an EXPERTMODE in my list of options, so I set up for the ExpertMODE. I ran the digital velocity coding directions using that and got all the right displays, but when I closed everything out and drove the car, no V0 in the BC menu. So, I started over and loaded the profile FSW PSW for some reason. After selecting my F1 and F3 to get my VIN and FA, then backing out, everything was ready for the Get Coded KOMBI.... (step 44). Go figure. So I redid the saving FSW PSW.MAN file and coding and everything worked. Now on to the other options: DVD in Motion Disable Idrive disclaimer Disable seatbelt chime Windows up with Key FOB Allow wipers to complete cycle Mirrors in and out on lock/unlock and then try to add weatherband NOAA (CIC module) Change ALL to REST on climate control (llooks like IHK module) I'm hoping someone will do a DIT for changing the blinker option to 5 blinks instead of 3 for lane changes. Huge thanks to everyone that has taken the time to put together things as comprehensively as they have and to answer so many questions that seem pretty basic to those with experience. This has been a pretty frustrating endeavor with all the stupid little errors I've made and my lack of general computer experience. But, I'm stoked to succeed. |

WOW, I have searched for a good week now after learning about coding. It's still a bit hazy to me on how this works and how to change settings in the ecu such as windows up with key fob, etc..
My main question here is, do I get the Bavarian Technic cable along with these downloads? The BT will make this all work for me? Thanks in advance |

No need for the Bav Tool.
Inpa does diagnostics.
Although they probably aren't as straight foward as the Bav Tool. ediabas = base program inpa = diags and some of the sub programs to ncsexpert = coding At least that is my understanding. |
