What does this this service light mean!!!!

Recently when i turn my car on I get the indication light of a full car with the word service under it for about 5 seconds then it goes away. Does this mean I'm due for another oil change? I just had my oil changed less than 1500 miles ago....I do need brakes and rotors however but wouldnt the car give me the pad wear sensor light instead? (which i havent got btw but from the looks and feel i need brakes and rotors)

It should be in the owner's manual and will state what needs to happen.

Remember, BMW has shifted to "Condition Based Service". Part of what that means is that several individual items (such as oil, brake fluid, brakes, etc.) are monitored INDIVIDUALLY and service for each is "requested" individually. This means that us poor owners are forced to go in more often, rather than in the old days where all those items were taken care of at one time.

RTFM; it's all there.

You'll find when you finally get around to reading the owners manual, BMW recommends that when any light comes on, take it to the dealer. In your case I think that is good advice.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I tried this and I think it was the pads after all...I only had 100 miles left on my pads. I'm still confused as to why my pad sensors didnt throw a code, something weird has been going on with Ecu lately.
