E90 330D Increased Emissions error ?
Hi All
My Carly adpater and App are bringing up a few errors, wondered if anyone can help ? 004212 Glow Plug Cylinder 1 (UPDATE: NOW FIXED BY CHANGING PREHEATING GLOWPLUG MODULE) 004222 Glow Plug Cylinder 2 (UPDATE: NOW FIXED BY CHANGING PREHEATING GLOWPLUG MODULE) 004252 Glow Plug Cylinder 5 (UPDATE: NOW FIXED BY CHANGING PREHEATING GLOWPLUG MODULE) 004501 Control of exhaust gas recirulation (Sounds EGR Related) 009C53 PTC LIN (Air con related) and my air con hasnt worked for over a year now Changed all 6 plugs for Beru ones, errors are still there. Ive started the car but not given it a full run yet. Could this be the glowplug module itself ? 004501 is giving me and emissions fault on the iDrive. I ve taken off the EGR and given a full clean out.....wasn't overly dirty though. 009C53. Had the air con re gassed but hasn't made the aircon work. Whats this error mean ? I'm guessing the air con one is wiring related. If LIN in this context relates to the lin bus. Check behind the air con switch panel for any loose connectors.
Did you clear the errors after changing the glow plugs? |

As for the aircon, i did change the climate control panel from a pre-lci with the "rest" button for an LCI climate panel with the "All" button probably around the time the aircon stopped working. I switched it back to the original climate panel and air con still didnt work. Didnt do any re-wiring or coding just straight swap Air con button on the climate works and glows green. INPA also sees the air con button being engaged ? Unfortunately when i try and select the aircon/heating options in INPA for my car i get an sys12 error ? For the glow plugs it sounds like the controller is knackered. Costs about £70 ish.
For the air con, I'll take a better look when I'm at the computer |

On the climate ill explain. I have a 2007 E90 Pre-lci without heated seats with the "rest" button on the climate panel. I fitted an LCI climate panel that has the "all" button instead of the "rest" button as i wanted the all button to sync both the dual climate temps which works. This LCI panel also has heated seat buttons. Ive seen LCI climate panels with the "all" button without heated seat buttons. Wondering if theres a compatibility issue. Also i have idrive and i cant control the air flow in the climate options on the idrive with this lci climate panel fitted ? iam confused if it its a straight swap, needs wiring or coding or can the swap can never be done ? |

As you have inpa, what is the error code you get for the air con? Just wondering if you might get a more comprehensive answer than with the carly app.
Imo it does sound like a compatibility issue but not one I've come across before. What was the reason for changing the panel? |

I changed the panel for an LCI as it has the "ALL" button, which lets me sync the dual climate at the same time. On the pre-lci climate panel you have to sync both sides of the climate manual to make them match, it just bugged me. the error code i get from Carly is 009C53 PTC LIN. In INPA i select IHKA and get the following error so cant read it. Last edited by JP's BMW; 07-08-2016 at 05:04 PM.. |

Yes mate that's the controller. I had multiple glow plug errors too. Changed them all but needed to do the controller too.
Have a good hunt about. They can be had for much less than £70. |

I think I paid about £50 for the glow controller so it pays to shop around, £70 was the first price I came across.
For inpa I've never been able to select any scripts to run. I select e90, then Functional Jobs, then read fault memory. If I need more than basic error checking then I run DIS and work through that. |

Unfortunately I can't seem to find a the module anywhere, dealer has one on the shelf so it looks like I will be paying dealer price today just so I can put the car back together. Need car ready for Monday for work. Iam a contractor so no work = no money. Lost a weeks wages last week.
Do really appreciate all the help and info though guys. |

Ouch, but when needs must I suppose. I paid £70 for a garage to diagnose and replace a faulty water temperature sensor, could have done it myself but I didn't have the time and I needed the car that evening.

Anyways fitted the little bugger. Wasn't easy......had to get the intake manifold off again.....lost count how many times thats been off. Managed to get the old module out without disconnecting any of the water hoses. fitted new unit Scanned it with carly and still showing 3 plug faults but i guess that was still stored in memory. cleared the fault and re-scanned and glowplug faults have gone......must of been the module as when i cleared them before they come straight back. £215 for 6 Beru plugs and a genuine BMW module is a shed load of money for essentially a DIY glowplug change. anyways just got my air-con and increased emissions fault left now....getting there slowly. As far as the aircon goes i might buy on ebay the original climate panel and a lci climate panel without heated seat buttons and try them and see if i can clear the faults. can always resell back on ebay the units that i dont need after ive tested them. so......as for the excessive emissions error 004501 Control of exhaust gas recirulation
can only think of a few things: 1. mass air flow (cleaned it) 2. EGR fault (cleaned it) 3. EGR vacuum pipe 4. Vacuum controller \ solenoid valve ? 5. map sensor (cleaned it) i do run a direct replacement k&N filter which i know can be oily and mess with mass airflow sensors ? cleaned out mass air flow and map sensor. EGR was cleaned about 6 months ago and is still looking clean. Car also has DPF delete, but i was getting increased emissions fault even before DPF was removed. i can clear the fault but it comes back almost straight away. I also have code 009C53
(E90 325d LCI). I have no problem with the air-con unit. It works as normal. So that code may not be the source of your problem. I understand, it is possible to code the operation of the REST/All button with Carly. By default, it is All on LCI. This does not need the panel to be changed. Although the text will obviously be wrong. I also have some other codes. 004E0F - Swirl flap plausibility - mechanically defective. 004DFF - Swirl flap actuator- swirl flaps wide open. 004B90 - Rail pressure at engine start too low. I haven't noticed any running issues. Maybe swirl flaps stuck fully open is a good thing?

I thought the carly code was just to make the "All" go from "Rest" not the other way around......will look into this as will be a bonus if your right. |
