will the oil coolers be ready for shipment as soon as we buy them in the GB or do we have to wait a couple of months until they are produced? If they'd be shipped right away and there's no wait then I'm in

I think Vince said they will ship within 2 weeks after GB is concluded. I will let him confirm.

They are planning on testing extensively on the track this week to reconfirm its performance and then we are all set to order.

On Wednesday (5/14), we will confirm the findings from various road tests at the Gingerman race track. Once confirmed that the V K Motorwerks oil cooler out performs the OEM oil cooler, we will initiate a group buy thread. From there, you will be able to see the specifications of the system along with pictures and pricing. They are requiring 50 orders for the group buy to take place. Everyone who submits their name on the group buy list will be notified by PM with ordering instructions. Orders may begin to ship as early as one week.

So far we have seen that the OEM oil cooler is sufficient for daily use, however, with prolonged hard driving…the benefits of the oil cooler begins to diminish.

The V K Motorwerks upgrade should keep your temps within the safe range and provides quicker cool down due to a larger oil capacity.

Even though this oil cooler will give you ( and me ) not one single additional hp it is a key-modification for the N54 ( at least in the e9x series ).

Thus:

- no, Dinan isn't wrong using a better oil-cooler with their tunes and
- no, Noelle isn't wrong using a better oil-cooler for their tunes as well.

A couple of months ago nearly everybody on this forum asked:

"How much will it be and what will be the power gain ?"

In the meantime everybody seems to understand that there is something like supporting mods for performance tuning like DV's, OC's or FMIC's - a much more mature approach. Great !

Come to think of it, A 50 person paid group-buy should be doable if the price is right. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'd be interested if the price is right. I have the OEM OC and I would love to drop my oil temps by at least 10 degrees.

no extra tranny cooler coming from the factory, thats why sambonator posted his question.

another question is:

Will the new cooler be sufficient for cooling AT cars on the track?

^ Good question. On the other hand, it will not be worse than stock and an improvement anyway.

Chitown, do you know if your upgrade will "drop in" to a 135 that already has the OEM oil cooler? Thanks.

I continue to wonder why, with no oil cooler at all, I cruise at 210 and max out at 260. . . . and have never been in a temperature related limp mode.

I highly doubt that the same kit can be used for the one series. The main reason being is because in the 335i the core takes up almost the entire space within the compartment. I don’t think that the hoses or mounts will be exactly the same. Furthermore the wheel well lining is going to be different so consequently there is a higher chance that the louver will also be different. However, we will be looking into a solution for that as well.

At that speed there is such a monstrous airflow it is sufficient to cool down the oil even with OEM or no oil cooler. High speed cruising is not exactly the catastrophic scenario regarding oil or coolant temps. But take it to The Ring for a cruise and U'll see. High load under low (relatively) speeds with low airflow not sufficient to cool down the oil through the slightly inefficient stock cooler (not to mention no cooler) will raise your temps above safe limits within 5 mins. Thats why U need an upgraded one with a bigger and more efficient cooler which can provide sufficient cooling under rough condicions, too.

BTW a few questions:
1. How can U max out @ 260 when the speed governor is set to 250?
2. Are U sure U have no oil cooler? Cars with the sport package have it and without SP U'd have the speed governor set to 235 km/h I believe.

You thought by "210" and "260" I meant speed? I live in the US. . . . . .
I'm talking about temps. And yes, it's VERY easy to see if you have an oil cooler or not. I'm one of those early guys who received a sport packaged equipped 335 without an oil cooler.

I've auto crossed this car and have done repeated 0-60 runs in 90+ degree weather. . . . still havent reached a temp over 260. Even after over an hour around town in 90+ degree weather and going WOT at almost every light and after every turn. . . . still dont go above 260.

I'm not talking about high speed cruising when I say that my temps remain at 210 or under when I "cruise." By cruise i just mean normal driving conditions, as in not flogging the car. So if i just leave the car in auto and drive smooth and slow around town or on a freeway, my temp sits at 210. Only after flogging the car my temps rise up to 260, but never exceed that.
