How long do you intend to keep your car?
The answer for me is for as long as possible barring some catastrophic failure that would not be economical to fix.

Same. While new cars seem way over priced, that isn't what is stopping me from buying them. They just don't excite me the way my lowly base model E90 does. Sure the new M3 has a ton more power, but you can only really use it while going arrest-able speeds. Otherwise it's basically a more expensive 330i. Maybe it's because I work in the technology field, but car gadgets don't impress me. A stupid screen with already outdated nav and a slow to respond UI doesn't make my experience of driving the car any better.
Getting into the E90 after a few days away from it feels inviting and fun. Getting into a newer car is like logging into a computer at work. Before you even start to do anything there are a shit ton of notifications and things dinging. I have enough of that in daily life, the car is a chance to escape it.

As long as they make parts for it and no one decides to occupy the same space while I'm driving. This E90 has a good balance of mechanical/electronic components, is *very* serviceable, has a very in-depth knowledge base, and good aftermarket. And then there's the Analog feel... I just can't relate to the numbed-down rubber band feel of electric power steering, and DCT (yes, it's much faster but less engaging - I don't want a race car for the street, nor do I drive like it).
The only thing I would consider replacing it with is that C4S that got away from me the first time. |

Literally forever. I will die before I sell this car. Plan is to buy a daily within the next two years, and keep my E92 for the long haul. I plan on pulling everything, cleaning and coating everything and reassembling the car. It will then be garage kept other than springs and summers.

E90 might get passed down to my son who’ll be driving in a couple of years. Thinking about spending a weekend down in Spartanburg for the two day teen driving school when he gets his permit. Currently at 110k miles.
F36 will be with me for the long haul and has a low 202k miles . CTS hardly gets driven, might end up selling it/trading it in for a e70 X5 6 cylinder as I’m looking to get a pop up camper. Sure, the f36 can pull it but looking for options as I can get top dollar for the CTS but would have to pay much more for a replacement. Smart to wait…. |

Hard to sell it when you look back at all the money you put in lol. I think I'll be keeping mine indefinitely. I want to do a car collection with all my cars.
My next goal is E70 X5 35d for a more daily/utility (Altho I have almost zero complaints with how useful my E92 has been to me) car then a V10 M6 exclusively for a weekend car. All cars I plan to keep indefinitely. |

I always keep cars as long as I can.
Got 24 years out of a 96 Integra did have to replace the motor at 200k though. I have had my 06 325xi wagon for 11 years now and it's holding up pretty well. Been averaging between 10 and 20 years on all the cars I have had. I hate the car buying process and it's even worse now since Covid. My next car will likely be a Tesla since I am getting sick when I look at the 5 dollar a gallon price tag on gas here in California . And the 5 dollar a plus handle is on the way to everybody. Also the cheapening began in the BMW line in 2010. The 4 cylinder turbo's aren't going to last nearly as long as N52 . Timing chain problem's reported in those from 2012 to 2016 . Problem is that fallacy applies to investment vehicles, not actual vehicles. Youre getting the intrinsic value of the car in return.
