Rear control arm and carrier bushings and ball joints

Does anyone know whether the ball joint in #3 can be used as an upgrade for the bushings in #2, #9 and #10. If not what would be good alternative for an upgrade?

feuer I just completed my rear spherical bearings swap with M3 control arms. I replaced every rubber bushing in the front and rear of my car with monoball joints. For the rear I found all the info needed for the swap in this thread that you might find helpful:

https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1781245

For number 9 from what I measured you would need a bearing around 50.8mm outer diameter, and none of those shown are that diameter. The only way to get a spherical joint in that location I know of is the Bimmerworld Rear Camber bearing kit:

https://www.bimmerworld.com/Suspensi...aring-Kit.html

For 2 and 10 shown in the diagram I used Meyle 3147100005

For number 3 it already has a spherical bearing so I obviously didn’t touch it.

There are some details of what I did in the most recent page of my build thread linked in my signature.

So sounds like there’s another option besides the Bimmerworld kit for #9. I already installed that kit with the sleeve and I trust Bimmerworld did their homework but a larger monoball without a sleeve would be better I think. BMW used a huge bushing in that location which is larger than any of the others.

If you find out what @Torgus used please post it up

I am pretty sure I used: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Suspensi...aring-Kit.html

I believe those are in my picture right in the middle. You can see the sleeve and the shiny black collar inserts installed:
I forgot I bought those, I did not document them on my build, I think it was last minute purchase. I will update my suspension thread.

I do agree finding one that did not need the sleeve would be ideal. The bimmerworld kit is expensive for what it is. You also have to tack weld it in which means it is rather permanent. But you will likely change it once in your life.

Aren't those these in my picture right in the middle? It has a sleeve, and the colors match perfectly to BW above. You can see the sleeve and the shiny black collar inserts installed:

Feel free to email Barry who I bought all the ball joints and my suspension from: Barry Battle barry@3dmmotorsport.com From looking at my suspension review I forgot to include that part. I will have to update it at some time.

Stock rear sway bar that was customized by @Barry@3DM to be 3 way adjustable.

He made the aftermarket solid front Eibach sway bar also 3 way adjustable. You can see the tabs here:

I have the rear sway bar in the 'stock' middle position right now. I will probably try it at the slightly more aggressive setting to see if I notice much of a difference. I was going to buy the front and rear Eibach sway bars but he convinced me to just go with the large bar up front and stock rear.

Nice set up. Info on the sway bar links? Front and rear too. Softer soft is better for traction. I think you will like the choice.

My suspension thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...5#post25439025

I did some research and I remember the Hotchkis seemed to be the best for the money for adjustable links: https://www.hotchkis.net/product/e92...r-endlink-kit/

I want to install some rubber covers on the spherical heim joints that are open on the hotchkis endlinks: https://www.3sx.com/rubber-boot-cove...n-control-arms <--Just so they hopefully last a little longer.

Torgus I love the custom adjustable swaybars, that is awesome. Our suspensions are very close spec I have all the monoballs swapped too but I’m still running BMW Performance Suspension (Springs, front swaybar, and dampers) with my set up. So I also have a stock rear swaybar I suspect I could maybe go firmer since I installed a lsd but I’ve been nervous to mess with my swaybars at all because the ride is so good.

Love the parts you are using and when/if I go to coilovers the Ohlins are at the top of my list. One thing I don’t see in your pics is the SRP/Turner bump steer tie rod ends for the front. With all the attention you and feuer are putting into your suspensions I highly recommend those parts. I suffered from bumpsteer for a few years before installing them a few months ago and they really made a difference and I highly recommend them to anyone who cares as much as we do about developing the handling.

Link please? Do you mean SLP with the exposed joints?

Too bad you are so far away it would be fun to try out each other's suspension.

Yea for sure! I actually was thinking the same and looked at your and Feuer’s locations after my last post lol

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-turner-m...5990tms01~tms/

My front used to be lowered probably 2” over stock now it’s probably 1.5” and those ends made a difference I can feel on the highway. If you get that kind of wandering steering when you hit bumps at highway speeds those ends make a nice improvement. From looking at your suspension post linked you are low enough that they would be helpful. Based on the side shot at the bottom of that post I would say use the 1/4” spacer and you should be good.

Yeah, will all live far from each other. I don’t have issue with bump steer. Only issue I’m getting now is clumsy feel when accelerating hard. Also right rear tire is wearing out faster than left. But that maybe is from the LSD? Anyhow, suspension is going on 6 years and I have done 50+ track days so I due for refreshment. Hopefully issue won’t persist. First track day is April 10 this year.

I think the right rear wearing out faster is typical for rwd cars in the US. All our right hand turns are tighter than lefts. I’ve had this happen with every set of tires on my car until I started taking right turns like grandma and taking left turns like Mario Andretti, now I get even tire wear on the rears. Not joking!

Have you replaced the toe arms/bushings? I’ve heard that’s a source of squirrelly rear ends on acceleration for our cars.

I replaced everything 6 years ago and never noticed uneven left to tight rear tire wear until last year. I go through 2 sets per year. Maybe it has been happening but with last tire set it’s very noticeable.

Yeah I wondered also. I saw those boots you mentioned for heim joints but since everything is installed I figured I’d just add boots if I ever had to replace the joints. Didn’t feel like messing with it again. Replacing a heim joint isn’t a big deal they are easily sourced so I decided to let it ride for now.

I had to go through that too. I ordered 8 Meyle bearings from FCP and they only sent 3 and back ordered the rest. I had to get the other 5 from eBay in England. If you get your google going maybe you can find some on European websites.

Right after I ordered my bearings I noticed there was a lot of talk about this mod and it got very popular, and in a few days everything went back ordered. With the Bimmerworld camber bearing I think you don’t have other options for that bearing location.
