MHD stage 1 - any actual testing showing the improvements over stock?

Hoping someone might help me out as I haven't been able to find, anywhere on the web:

1. clear dyno or other test figures showing the increase in kW and Nm for MHD Stage 1 compared to stock;

2. tests showing any improvement in 0-100kmh time, and/or 60-90kmh time, again for Stage 1 compared to stock?

I'm sure it is worth doing, but was curious whether there has been any reported road testing results..

cheers

I have a dyno sheet for MHD Stage 1, but didn't dyno it before.... Let me know if you want a copy of my run. It was done at CRD in Sydney...

I've learned not to trust my butt dyno with this particular car. on some days the car seems more powerful (without having done anything), and on the next day feels doughy.

I've done the XHP stage 2 tranny flash (partly as a test of the flashing process and cables), and after 4 weeks still evaluating that by 'feel'.

Errr...by 'tranny flash' I was referring to the transmission...nothing else

I was in the same boat as you few months ago as per my original thread asking if MHD Stage 1 was worth it..

Since flashing it i can tell you the car is transformed, more power all over the place, you can feel it instantly after the flash.

I did load my mhd stage 1 log into a virtual dyno simulator and showed 235kw at the wheels, yet to do a proper dyno.

You are going from 8psi stock to around 12-13psi on Stage 1.

BM335m,

How does a 'virtual' dyno work? Can I get a virtual power figure before and after flashing, or does it rely on the logs from MHD?

cheers

See Autotech Services, Hume - they have a Dyno Dynamics. Ask for Ed Lee.

Download it, it's free.

You log 3rd gear up to where it looses power 5500-6000rpm.
Using virtual dyno can be set for different dyno types.
The middle setting of 1.0 is closest to dyno dynamics.
Put your tyre size, weight of car, your weight, barometer, ambient temperature, set smoothing to 6 and std correction on.

If you enter that data correct each time you can compare stock and stage 1 pretty easy.

You also need a smooth bit of flat road.
Get 3 logs load them up.

A standard BMW 335i produces around the 190rwkw. When I first got mine, the initial modification was to install a Vishnu Procede tune. I put it on the dyno and it produced 241rwkw. That is how much a tune makes on a standard car.

As Brule said, you use your MHD log file in the Virtual dyno software.

Looks my virtual dyno result is very close to the Coupes33 actual dyno. I got 238kw on one log and 235kw on another same road same night.

Mate, just flash MHD stage 1, you can flash back to stock in 3mins if you want to go do a dyno run then 3 mins later flash your power map on again to compare.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend MHD. The off the shelf maps are quite conservative. Buy some plugs and coils just in case.

Satz has put more thought into if he will flash stage 1 than i would for a proposal. Its really not a big deal man, it should be no more than a fleeting second of thought, not 6 months of back and fourth and analysis

Nike...

I just did it and loved it. Very quickly got some down pipes and went to stage 2. Biggest change was going to stage 2, my car is now an animal.

Just need an intercooler... then an aquamist system, then e85... anyone know who can tune our cars on MHD in Australia?

Probably have given this more thought than when I proposed!

Don't know which costs more in the long term....wife or n54. That's the worry.

Actually my niggling worry is that the N54 might already be at its safe 'limits' in terms of long-term reliability of injectors, HPFP, coils, etc, otherwise the manufacturer would have wrung out this extra power? That's just my own concern, having seen my own N54 spew out smoke when the injectors went...

cheers

The words N54 and long term reliability shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

What's the recommended Logging software for N54?

I installed Virtual Dyno on my laptop. I thought it would also do the real-time logging. Looks like I have to load already-created logs?

Is there any recommended free logging software that works on a PC?

cheers

You log with mhd. You buy the logging module only if you dont want to tune it yet.
