I paid just under £400 using genuine ZF parts and new mechatronic sleeve.
With the age they are it is very likely that your gearbox will have a slight leak (the mechatronic sleeve is likely the culprit) so yes, I'd agree that it would be a silly decision not to change this at the same time. Gearbox instantly become smoother. |

Just an update on this;
Got mine done for £360 in the end. Gearbox service and mechatronics seals using ZF parts. A little smoother but still occasionally jerky. Notice it most when colder and accelerating faster away from standstill (can be jerky) and will occasionally hold onto 1st and 2nd a bit longer than normal and then suddenly change up a gear. Doesn’t happen as much as before though. I have chatted with a guy who works with these gearboxes a lot and he has said that it can be quite common and an XHP gearbox flash/map can change it completely and get rid of what I was saying above^. As long as the gearbox with the mechatronics unit has been serviced, the solenoids are fine and there are no underlying issues. So I may give that a go in the future |

Xhp is great, would recommend. Don't bother stage 1 or 2, skip straight to stage 3. Still chilled in D. If you have issues, xhp won't fix it though....

I’m seeing more and more people mentioning the need to change mechatronic seals on a transmission service, i understand the need to change the mechatronic sleeve, but are diy’ers now removing the valve block to change seals underneath?

As far as i can remember you need to remove it to get to the sleeve anyway and the other 4 are just there waiting |

I paid about £300 for mine from Munich Power (near Gatwick) for genuine ZF parts, including mechatronics seal. That was a couple of years ago so parts prices may have risen since then.
If you fancy a trip to Germany, you can get it done at ZF in Dortmund. |

Sleeves, seals, solenoids, pan +filter and transmission oil change,
That's full service, solenoids are often missed. Last edited by Saif2018; 11-02-2021 at 07:23 AM.. |

I have a different car now but same setup. E91 325D msport auto, ZF 6Hp 21 I think. Serviced the gearbox today, new pan and oil, mechatronic sleeves and connector sleeve. Worst part I found was trying to get the mechatronic connector plug seal out and replaced. The only access to it had an exhaust hanger in the way. I did manage to pry it out with a screwdriver but could not get it back in. Little tip if it helps anyone I used a pry bar with a 45 degrees ish angle, cut a bit of wood to go over the connector tube and used the cast metal that was in the way as a place to or against the wood, then used my other hand to press the connector clip in.
