Hmm...I've never downloaded a diagnostic tool, 35i's are problematic enough, without going looking for issues

Having said that I do have a tame mechanic that'll run a diagnostic for free when I hear the dreaded 'Bong of Woe'

Yarp agreed but I still seem to like making trouble.

Problem with doing all work myself is that I don`t know a single mechanic.

I have the full MHD which has a code reader and logging and tbh I expected something else to go wrong after changing maps from stage 1 to 2+. Got a solid misfire at 4k+ revs on cylinder 3, swapped coils with 4 and the misfire moved, so feel like I got lucky.

And btw, it is muchos fun clearing codes whilst driving. Normal, limp mode, press button, normal again

Also vital but not the cars fault - bent a rim and destroyed a tyre, over £300 although the council should pay but they haven`t looked at it yet and say it can be up to 6 months before they do, its been 3 already.

Just doing the OPG wasn`t vital but gave me an excuse to install catless DPs and a FMIC - MTC DP`s £150 (new 2nd hand) - Wagner evo 2 comp £250 (2nd hand) and OPG kit from bmw £60, engine support bar £60 - New Oil and filter £55

Oh and brake pads all round although haven`t checked if the rears are needed - £143 plus sensor for front £10

Don`t talk to me about the days of my life I lost trying to get those damn catless DP`s in!!!

£750 (assuming the council will refund the wheel and tyre) for the year with some serious upgrades for me to enjoy going forwards
You got an awesome deal on the FMIC & DPs. Just ordered new VRSF DPs for mines and with install it's £680

Just spent $1,939.30 to buy and install the M3 E90 22.5mm rear sway bar (replacing the 13mm OEM E90 rear sway bar) w/new end links and Turner solid aluminum rear sub-frame bushings (to replace the worn out rubber OEM rear sub-frame busings) in my 2008 335i E90. About $1100 of that was labor.

This "upgrade" made a huge improvement in the overall handling of the car.

Previously upgraded the front suspension with an M3 E93 front 28.0-24mm front sway bar (about 13% stiffer than OEM E90 and 7% stiffer than the M3 E90 front sway bars), M3 upper/lower control arms, M3 engine compartment tower brace and adjustable Yellow Koni shocks. The Yellow Konis replaced Koni FSDs up front; Koni FSDs are still in the rear.

Reason for the upgrade was that the rear was starting to wallow and felt very unstable at high speed even in wide turns. Not so any longer. The rear directly tracks w/the front w/o any wallowing, wheel hop or loss of traction without an LSD. So, obviously an LSD is NOT necessarily required when going to a stiffer rear sway bar.

Steering has always been very precise in my car (some would say overly sensitive) after doing the front end upgrade and could be made to oversteer w/excessive and/or abrupt steering input, even before doing the rear end upgrade.

I don't think the steering is any more senstive than before and is easily controlled with minor steering adjustments matched with appropriate throttle control but I plan to play around w/tire pressures (lower front/higher rear) to see if any improvements can be made.

Just took in on a 100 mile loop on a variety of road conditions including major freeways, wide/smooth 2 lane highways and narrow/bumpy 2 lane backroads at speeds varying between 50-120 mph and it handled all of these conditions to my satisfaction.

That said, the E90 was never designed as a canyon carver but it now truly excels IMO as a high speed GT (grand touring) vehicle that can keep up w/the best of them on all types of roads at only a fraction of the cost.

So, I'm very happy w/the results of this additional suspension upgrade in my E90.

Just the bargain £585 to allow my tyres to touch the public highway!
I even discovered the fuel tank was still full so that was a bonus!
I do need to source a new bit of double sided tape though as my dash cam has fallen off the windscreen through lack of use

Only £67 which was for a tank of fuel, car has hardly been this year so has been £0 per month for most of the year! Back commuting now though and with my first batch of E10 in the car, I'll be ready for slightly worse mpg (will be interesting to see what it averages at) and more frequent fill-ups as a result to make up for the lack of spending!

Can't believe you are such a tight wad! Run it on super unleaded. It will go better and you might find the extra mpg you get offsets the expense per litre at the filling station anyway and your face will look like this

More seriously, the BMW handbook suggests that a 335i should be run on 95 RON as a minimum and recommends 98 RON for normal use so I would not even contemplate running mine on E10 regular unleaded.

Only Shell V Power for my 35i, although I have had to put a tenners worth of the BP stuff in it at least twice when I didn't have enough fuel to make it to a Shell garage

It's also been mapped for minimum 98 RON

I'm not quite that fussy that it has to be Shell and the odd litre of BP Ultimate should be ok but then it is only 97 RON and not what BMW recommend or you have your car mapped for.
Either way, it has to be better than regular unleaded diluted with ethanol!

Ha I must have missed that detail! For some reason I thought it said 95 on fuel filler flap, so just went with that, must have another read of that section of the handbook and check what that sticker says.
Annoyingly, I only go up and down the motorway these days so don't get to have a lot of (or any) fun with it, its happy enough on 95 but do mix it here and there with the super stuff. I used to put in 99 Shell more regularly when I went on the odd track and had more interesting roads to navigate.
I agree though, the premium blend should give extra mpg, should have a higher calorific content I'd think, and offset some of that extra cost at pump, got a bit lazy!

The sun was shining today so I took the 35i for a
little scud about but when I found a nice bit of empty duel carriageway to open her up the back end didn't feel quite right & the traction control light was flickering away for no discernable reason I then felt a kind of 'tramping' feeling so I got of the gas & drove her home, whilst on the way home I had to brake a bit hard whilst cornering & the car started pulling to the right as I was cornering to the left, which was a bit unnerving but fortunately I wasn't going very fast.

Jacked her up when I got home but couldn't find any noticeable play in the rear wheels or any of the arms or bushes, shocks & springs also look ok. So I suspect it's most likely a reluctor ring issue.

Couldn't get it booked in until the 27th While it's at the shop am having all the arms & bushes etc checked as I'm thinking about a full suspension refresh as it's now done 123,500 miles with new Sachs sport shocks & Apex lowered springs fitted at 60,000 miles, so am also considering either a suspension kit or putting it back to stock, as now I'm getting old I am finding the ride a little to choppy.
Would appreciate any input on suspension kits & or thoughts of returning it to stock.

Yeah, I know it doesn't make financial sense to spend what could end up being maybe half of the cars value on refreshing the suspension, new mounts, shocks & springs but having toyed with the thought of selling it, for what the cars worth I don't really see the point as it's probably only worth £3-4,000 or so, maybe not even that as book value says only £2,600 in A1 condition & with 540i tourers currently £30,000 plus & having the company disco as my dd I can convince myself that spending money unessacerily on the 35i will save me money in the long run because the 35i will feel nice & fresh again & hopefully a bit more comfortable so I won't have the need/want to spend £30,000 plus on replacing it.

That makes sense....right?

Edit
Have been looking at suspension kits & the ST XA kit looks like good value, I like the idea of being able to adjust the rebound/dampening & the ST stuff is basically KW but made from galvanised steel instead of stainless, as my 35i only does around 3,000 miles a year now & is garaged I don't see that being a problem & bought direct from ST it's £800....hmmm

I'm thinking about the ST XTA for my E90 M3. They get good reviews.

Total cost for the month is now up to about $2800.

$2k to buy install the rear solid subframe bushings and M3 22.5mm rear sway bar
$550 to buy install 2 new front tires - Michelin Pilot Super Sports (non-runflat)
$260 to repair and refinsh (powerder coat) a front wheel.

Still need to get the annual oil/filter which will be about another $100+ then I'll be all done spending $ on my 335i "for now." So, call it $3k for the past month.

I don't spend near the same amount of money on my other cars but when it's running "right" the 335i is so fast, so solid and so much fun to drive, I really don't mind. LOL!
