For sure, it does!

I saw it mentioned above that you upgraded the supercharger idler pulley. What size idler pulley and belt did you go with for the 3.4 inch pulley? Also did it reduce the noise at idle on the unit? My idler pulley is kind of loud and Im tempted to put a ceramic bearing in it or replace it to shut it up lol
That's a good question. Not sure on belt length but surely reduced from 110 version but less w 22 Rpd's idler pulley. When you say it sound is great and no annoying rattle!

You Said it! Same deal for me and love the linear feel of the online 6, and feel retained with these mods!

Update! It's definitely time to ditch the 3 stage manifold now. My large DISA failed/shorted out/caught on fire today in a drive thru. Still smelling the lovely smell of an electrical fire. Tons of smoke from the DISA valve even when the car is in accessory mode. Not related to the PCV heater, tried running the car with the PCV heater disconnected and still had smoke from the inner DISA.

For additional information, I installed brand new OEM DISA valves from FCP Euro at the time I installed the 3 stage manifold. It was at 55k miles. So I've been running that manifold with no issues for 3 years and 30k miles now.

N54 manifold time, I guess!

It's all back together with the N54 manifold in! Huge thanks to BigInBoca for all of his insight on the N54 manifold install, I copied your use of the nylon spacers and cut bolt sleeves and it worked perfectly.

But I gotta say the current charge pipe situation isn't the most beautiful thing. Basically had to use a shortened 45 degree hose bend and a hose coupler on the end of the ESS chargepipe and while it seems pretty solid, I'd be hard pressed to say it's pretty to look at. Just waiting on the tune update from StageFP and I'll be rolling again! Then I'll be off to see them on the 21st for MILVS and the 3.4 inch pulley tune.

Hi Everybody!

I just spent a few hours reading this whole thread. Nice work pushing the hardware and documenting the progress.

I just bought crimpwimp 's E91 6MT RWD and I'm looking into options for more power. The ESS supercharger looks like it gets me what I want (linear power delivery, great response, and some help up here at altitude) but it may present some problems with emissions testing here in Denver.

The test centers just recently started checking CVN on the DME to verify that the car is running factory software. My buddy just learned this the hard way on his (formerly my) M235i with an MHD flash. I assume there's no chance the ESS kit will run and pass emissions with factory software? I would think that with the M3 injectors the fuel trims will error out pretty quickly if it even runs at all on the stock maps.

Any insight into this? I don't mind doing a little "reconfiguration" every couple years, but I'd like the car to run cleanly anyway, and I sure as hell don't want to be R&Ring the SC kit for testing.

Has anyone tried to run this kit on the stock software, but with a piggyback like JB4?

How about locating the MAF sensor in a larger tube? I fabricated a turbo system for my 2001 Tundra (3.4 V6) and it runs well and passes testing with a larger MAF calibrator tube and MKIII Supra injectors. The 3.4 Toyota motor/ECU is a dinosaur compared to the N52, so I'm sure there's more to consider here.

Last one: Back in the day I had a 1991 Saab 900 SPG with a larger turbo and a lot of hardware mods, but since it was an EPROM based ECU, chip tuning wasn't a thing. I was able to get power out of it using an additional injector setup and a separate standalone controller that added mappable fuel above a certain boost level. I know people add port injection to the turbo BMWs, maybe that could help keep the stock software but support the supercharger?

Not sure, we have no emission in wa state no longer so easy up here but I passed prior no problem just switched from alpha tune to reading MAF. Now, too much work done so not sure…

Thanks for the reply. When you switched to the MAF tune was it the stock tune or another aftermarket tune?

It would be awesome if it could run well enough to pass with the stock tune. I think I could support it otherwise with port fueling and an additional injector controller.

No ESS tune, but see your point and at that point a few years ago here they did not check software here in WA. However, one that activated the MAF to assure it was utilized during inspection.

Anyone know the specs on the blower? Looks like a Vortech V3 of some flavor with internal oiling.

If I'm opting out of the injectors, tune, and likely some of the plumbing (I'm working on a better MAF arrangement and hopefully an intercooler) I'll just roll my own kit. I can CAD and CNC the bracket.

Moved up my meth gauge to vent, and prefer location over steering column.

Did you ever dyno after all of those changes?

N54 manifold, MILVs, and the 3.4 pulley you should have gained a fair amount I would hope.

Don't, marginal difference, and get the n54 one. Highest HP I got snd less parts to fail… they are also very cheap to buy in comparison!

Been a long silence from me but my car is at StageFP at the moment getting probably the final stage of power adders done. Today they made 400whp on 93, non-intercooled with the 3.4 inch pulley and MILVs at 7500rpm.

Can't wait to show you guys what they're about to do next with cooling and E85. Bob has some stuff up his sleeve and it sounds like it's going to be insane. Target power should be between 450 and 500. I'll keep you guys updated once it's done in the next week or so!

Bad ass!
I'm waiting for my friend here to get things squared away with an e85 vendor before running the stuff… Got the injectors in, though. We're doing the Vargas n54 hub spline lock at the moment… Drove the car for the first time in months last week… Missed all of it 😄
