Just had a call from the workshop, they read the error codes and the main issue showing is a fault with the "intelligent battery sensor". They are ordering a replacement, and so will see once that is on, what happens next.
Anyone heard that a replacement battery needs to be coded in DIS? I figured this might only apply if the replacement is not the exact matching technical spec as the one being removed.

Issue now resolved, turned out to be the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) that is part of the power feed from the battery. Was reporting incorrect information to the systems, hence charging and discharging was not right, causing issues with the systems in the car.
Much cheaper fix than it could have been if it was actually the steering column etc. Advise anyone with similar symptoms to get car checked for all faults before looking for any parts.
