Do I need an ICOM cable or a K/D-Can cable to code my head unit?

I need to do some coding on my head unit.

I have the crappy base system (without tweeters) and I need to change it to "HiFi" mode before I upgrade my speakers.

I would like to use my current K/D-Can cable if possible.

Any ideas?

Ok, I just don't want to brick anything.

So I can read this radio file and that's a good test?

Based on what's happened with other reports on this board
if it doesn't work it's more likely that it just won't change to the
new settings.

I coded this exact scenario to $676 via KDCAN.

Do you have any simple to follow instructions on how to do this with NCSExpert ?

I found this thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=802793

Not sure if the info is correct.

BTW, I have the "professional" unit with the crap base audio speakers (no tweeters) and no iDrive.

I have/had the same base stereo. I'm a little rusty, as it's been a bit, but I believe this post (below) is pretty much right on the money. I think the only thing you may have to also process is RAD2. Don't forget, once you're done you have to shut the car down completely. Let it get out of standby mode (could be 20min or so). I personally, due to kids, ended up coming back the next morning, to find my volume all the way down (ie. HIFI programming had kicked in with no head unit amplified sound). But you really do have to let it shut all the way down before it will set it to HIFI. You can confirm that it worked by going into the hidden menu by pressing/holding the "M" on the radio while turning on the car.

This post by the same poster mentions this "2rad" or "RAD2" you mentioned.
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=32

What exactly needs to be done to this "2RAD" ?
Do the same thing as CAS ?

The name of the Radio file is either 2urad or 2rad depending on the year of the
car.
Go to Inpa functional jobs and print out the results of F2 and F3 and screen
save them it tells you the name software and hardware level of every
electronic module in the car.
Also after you add the VO option for Hi Fi you default code the Radio
to the new VO setting the change will happen right away.

Be sure to do the sg codiren with the the non manipulation
profiles so it uses the CAS or FRM coding from the 676 vo
change and not the man file.

Well, I tried to read my "2urad" file just as a test but NCS Expert gave me this error (attached).

So does this mean I need an ICOM cable if I cant read my "2urad" ECU ?

Yes, I was able to read from the CAS module.

I've attached the result.

So what can we conclude ?

I have the same error while coding my 2URAD, I guess its because our cars are from 2009++.
How ever I was able to reset at least MULF2HI to default with DCAN (which is also on MOST like 2URAD).
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=765036
I think in theory it should be possible to reset 2URAD to default too.
The key is to "Process car" all modules at once, you still get error, but module will be reset to default.
Of course it will reset all modules so you will lose anything if it was adjusted/tuned/coded... So you must backup what you can.
It resets modules in that order how they are listed in NCSExpert, but the problem is that MULF2HI is in front and 2URAD is at the end, so MULF2HI is being reset first and then you get error, and reset process stops, not sure if you can continue after that.

One option would be to remove all modules which through errors (like MULF2HI) before 2URAD, so 2URAD would get its reset turn. But not sure if its doable?
Other option would be some how to change the order of modules listed in NCSExpert when doing "Process car". Does any one know if that is possible?
