jbharshman's e92 Daily Frozen Gray Build Thread
Welcome to mi build thred
I guess I should start by saying this is my dream car.. When I was in HS (2009-2012), my buddy got his dad's 328i E92 and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.. Seriously I was obsessed with his car. There was no way I could afford something like that (nor would my parents ever consent to me owning a 2 Dr sports car as my first car)... Fast forward 7 years and I'm graduating from college, I had a F150 all through college, lifted, mud tires. As an engineer, I could NEVER leave anything the way it was. I had to take stuff apart, add to it, mod it, whatever it was I had to leave my mark on it. I end up getting a job in Calgary, AB... long ways from home but its a temporary contract. I sold my truck and packed my bags, a few months in into the job I realize I need a vehicle for the winter. (lol of course a RWD is my first choice). My boss tries to sell me his 2008 335i, but he hadn't kept ANY of the maintenance up on it so I stayed away... but the 335i bug had bitten me. I searched for a few months, monitoring any deals to be had and I finally found this one.. I head back to the US in February, so i'll be importing the car permanently then (more about that later...). My commute to work is only like 2 km so I'm not super worried about winter conditions as I live downtown and the roads stay pretty tame from what I've heard, but it beats walking 2 Km in the Canadian winter. Okay enough back story, here's the car. Picked up this 2007 E92 335i MT about a month ago (just in time for my 23rd birthday), got a killer deal on it, exact color I wanted, All stock except for Breyton GTS Rims, lowering springs & M grill stripes. Here's what she looked the day I picked her up... Exterior: Interior: The original owner wrapped the trim in brushed aluminum, but he did a poor job. I removed it all and will either be keeping the wood grain or wrapping it in CF. Now on to mods..... : First thing I did was swap out the fenders for some M3 style's that I picked up off Ebay for $350 shipped.. Moist fender picture before dipping: (Here comes more criticism lol) I know the general consensus here is against it... but I did it myself and I think it came out amazing, I can retouch it at anytime, change colors etc... Since I paid so little for the car, I'll probably never sell it and can just keep changing the colors as I please.. Annnnnnd done I also bought an aero lip which I dipped separately and then installed. As for performance, all thats done is:
No point in adding $$ and power now with winter coming... Exterior next few weeks:
Update 11/2/2017: Really adding a new meaning to "frozen gray" Update 11/6/2017: VMR 710 and Winters are on the car, I'll add more pics later but here's a quick one after a wash. The car handles far beyond my expectations in snow with these on... seriously the biggest performance change I've ever felt in a car. Update 11/27/2017: While the RD Exhaust was nice... it really left something to be desired in the hire RPMs. So I had some exhaust cut outs installed for a muffler delete and it sounds amazing. Not too much to sound ricey, but a nice rich throaty growl along with some burbles as the RPM's drop in gear. Parking garages have become acoustic sandboxes for me now I'll post a walk around and sound video for you guy soon. We also have some nice weather this week so i'm going to try and get a photoshoot in! Stay tuned. Finally got the photo shoot done - Update 12/18/2018 My girlfriend and I have decided to quit our jobs and travel the world.... no room for the car in my life anymore so it's now for sale! I had a 2 week wait after I finished the deal before I picked it up.... so all those parts came in at the same time as the car, taking it easy on the wallet for the next month or two now haha. I'll post pictures when I put the 710's on for winter |

Thanks!
The dip I used was an anthracite gray pearl.. but its not the same anthracite gray you see on DipYourCar.com. (That one is like a matte gray). This was actually a clear coat mixed with the anthracite metallic pearl. I'll post more pics of the color up close but it looks more like a frozen gray (a graphite gray with metallic flecks but still matte). Thanks man Seriously, I love the color. I almost went with matte black but thought it was too played out... Next thing is fixing this oil leak and some carbon fiber wrap for my mirrors, also putting on my black 710's today! |

I forgot to list it but I've already done the spark plugs - need to check the control arms though. |
