I want to plasti dip my style 189 wheels. What kind of plasti dip do I need? Here are the ones on Home Depot's website:

Also everyone says start with 2 very light layers, I noticed if you go too light you sometimes get a texturized look (I think that's the reason through trial and error). Defiantly do at least 4-5 layers since its rims which will see wear and tear. But if you do mess up just peel off. I plasti dipped my friends rims and a week later he got bored so we peeled off and power washed the lug bolt areas. Rims looks absolutely brand new

There's no reason someone would flame him for doing his wheels, it's a temporary way to see what your wheels look like in a different color. In his case the 189's will look great black. And if he doesn't like it, he can take it off with ease

Just pay to get them powder coated and you'll be happier in the long run.

I plasti-dipped my wheels white then removed them after two days because it was almost impossible to clean them. Went with a powder coat and looks 10x better and cleans up much easier!

Exactly what I ended up doing as well. But I'm happy I did dip them to make sure I liked the look before I made a permanent change as I'm sure you felt the same way

Thanks. I think I'm going to test out plasti dip before I do a powder coat/get money for new rims. How many cans will I need?

4 cans at the very most. Blah blah with the flame suit comments. It's your car, and $30 dollars to see what your car looks like with black wheels is well worth the money. You can always just rip it right off.

yeah I did, just saying that if I can go back i'd save the $50 and just powder coat them.

Why do anything those wheels are amazing oem color. If you want wheels get some aftermarket one

i would get one of them spray can attachement to ensure an even spray on all areas. i would recommend taking of the rims from car so you wont get any dripping in case on heavy spraying. you can also use index cards around rims to not get any on the tires.wait at least 10 mins after first 2 coats. do them in a garage so that dust doesnt get on em. ive had lotta people tell me they liked the way they came out. dipyourcar.com also have other colors like gunmetal and glossifier. good luck. post up pics.
