Yes the turbine wheel is clipped... count the blades there the same amount as the oem wheel. If you count the wheels on the ASR turbos, you will see its a completely different turbine wheel which is also slightly larger than stock.

They look similar to GT20 compressor wheels to me.

Im a super nooob to turbo upgrades, but can these new turbos be used without a tune, with just the stock ECU and will there be power increases if used that way?

Let me get this straight.....This turbo upgrade involves the replacement of the BMW factory units on an exchange basis with re-machined and internally modified units of the same OEM factory units . GTPRO are not using aftermarket units as some may be thinking.

yeaup
it works wonders
plus I really doubt the n54 can handle bigger turbos without a SERIOUS internal rebuild
so I think this is as good as it will get

What makes you say this? You have no evidence backing this at all. This motor could be good for 600-700 rwhp, we just don't know yet because nobody has pushed it yet. We will find out soon.

McLuVan, have you open the engine? Seen the pistons? Rods? Rings? Have you stress tested the motor? If you don't have evidence, then please do not chime in with worthless info. I can tell you that if these motors were going to blow, then Terry or Shiv would have done it on their race maps. They are producing well over 400 rwtq in a very fast burst. If the motors were on the weak, they would have gone down already.

The N54 appears to be strong from the evidence we have. The fuel system will be the limitation.

Yeah Brian, what do you guys play to do about the fuel system "situation"? Im no expert but from what everyone has said if we want to go above i think 450hp we need to upgrade the fuel system.... but currently because its DPI there is nothing available??? thought, comments, anserws and maybe even pictures of new injectors and a better HPFP????

other then that glad to see we are going to have some options in picking a turbo upgrade next year

my concern is, with people running higher boost levels, 16+ psi how is the center section of the turbos going to hold up?

There are upgraded HPFPs available for the Mazda DI and Volkswagon DI engines. I imagine once people start doing research into it they will find readily available upgrades for the BMW DI engines as only a couple of companies make HPFPs.

So far on other DI motors the injectors have not been the first limitation, but the HPFP. I have no idea if this will be the case for the N54.
