When did everyone get there first oil change?
My car just started saying it needs 1 quart of oil and doing this crappy adaptive headlight missing up thing again, but anywho i took it to the dealership and they just added a quart and sent me on my way. I have 8000 miles on the car. Where they suppose to do a oil change already?
I also asked for them to do the DME update for me. |

Changed my oil at 1200 miles (after break in period was over) then had the dealer change the oil at my 1 year owner mark (about two months ago). I will be having my oil changed every 6 months from now on...

So do you guys think i should request to have my old changed and not just have a quart added? Would they have to change it as well?

since you're still under warranty and want to change the oil outside of the BMW"s OCI, go to tischer and grab a 10pk filter and go to your nearest walmart/wherever and grab the cheapeast LL01 rated oil. |

When I was under warranty the dealer would only cover annual oil changes for me..I changed my oil at an indy shop at the 6 month interval and did the free annual at the dealer.

i changed mine 2 months ago at 8k miles, computer says i have 8k more for the free dealer change. i have 11k now, 19k for the first CBS oil change is ridiculous. the dealer will change it at the 1 year mark, not 19k.

I have around 5300 miles right now on my car. I'm planning to get Vanguard V2's in about a month. By that time I should have 5600 miles at most, and when I get the exhaust installed, I'll have my oil change done then too.

I went to the dealer bought the filter and oil then took it to a buddy's independent shop @ 6k miles and he said it was pitch black. I am doing it every 6-7k one I pay for then the dealer does the next on them.

I had an evo & I changed my oil every 3K, granted it was highly modified but still these motors are powerful motors with tons of potential I feel like changing it so infrequently is not good for the motor. Why are the scheduled dates so far off from the norm with these things, is there something I dont know like little men in construction hats and hammers running around my motor repairing it as I kick the crap out of it?

I broke mine in HARD and changed the oil after the first gas tank ~300 miles. There was DEFINITELY evidence of metal dust in the oil at that point (normal bearing/cylinder wall/ring/journal break-in). I can't imagine waiting until 15k for the first change with all that debris.
I changed it again at 1200, and I'll be changing it every 5,000 on my own. I'm pleased with the break-in though, she's running hard at 13.4's bone stock on a 2.0 sixty |

Not at all. The dealership wouldn't have to open the cowl or anything to change the oil. If you have a DP, then it might be cause for worry. But that's why I got my first oil change done at 7K by an independent. I wont have to worry about taking out the DP for a good 6-7 months.

From reading what you guys have posted I'm guessing that most people get their oil changed before the dealer's first scheduled oil change at 1 year?
I'm greatly considering this as I am at 4 months, 5700km (3500 miles) right now from when I took delivery. I'm assuming that when you take it to an independent shop for oil change they don't have to deal with any of the oil sensor electronics (aka the computer will keep counting down to the 1st dealer oil change as if nothing ever happened)? Thanks for the help

This is really getting ridiculous how BMW promises free maintenance and then doesn't even change the fucking oil when it needs to be. I don't buy how "engineered" the oil is these days. Oil is oil damnit. Is there anyway to force the dealer to change it claiming the oil is black by now? I have ~ 7000 miles and the damn computer always says its ok. Like hell it is. How the hell would a computer know how oil is doing?

I'm at 11k miles without an oil change and my SA advised to take it in on my 1 year anniversary in December. I never drove my car this long without an oil change. I usually get it done every 6k miles with the other cars I've owned. After service in December I will go back to that routine on changing the oil myself every 6k after complimentary service.
