N57 330d OEM glow plug control unit

I had my car serviced other day and the garage ran their diagnostic tool and said there's a glow plug control unit error showing up.

I had a look today and the unit that's on there is a hitachi which doesn't look OEM. There is a 1619 code on it which might potentially be date of manufacture, week 16 2019 or 2016 week 19.

It doesn't look like the used OEM units I saw on ebay which seem to be BERU and have the BMW badge marked on it.

Anyone have much experience with these? I would be surprised that if the glow plug unit was replaced it would be faulty already, maybe I need new glow plugs?

As above, it's Beru from the factory, the model you need for the N57 is the Beru GSE108

And yes the Hitachi one could have failed already, replace it with an OEM one.

I know it’s a bit late, but I just got a BERU unit from Autodoc for a good price! Came within a week from Germany which I was a bit wary of from looking at recent reviews, but took a punt anyway. Just need to fit it on Saturday and hope it works

Same! Any shops in the UK were selling them for double the price and since the car still works fine i don't mind waiting week or so. Hoping it solves mine too as I really don't fancy doing changing glow plugs

For anyone interested, I replaced the controller unit and was still getting same error for cyl 3 glow plug. Turns out that glow plug was snapped... Previous owner failed to mention that which is annoying but such is the used car world. Can't trust anyone.

I got a damaged glow plug removal kit from euro car parts and managed to get it out in the end. Basically same tool kit as the Laser 5205 seen here:

Always looks far easier on youtube. My electrode wouldn't come out so had to break it using a flathead and hammer to get the step drill in. After that it was pretty easy, just took my time with the drilling to not damage the head. Everything is back together now and replaced the rest of the plugs. No more error code showing up. Happy days
