Koni Str.t Orange

Does anyone have these installed with the Eibach spring set on an e92? & is it worth the additional $300 to go Koni Yellow (also with the springs)? Not planning on tracking my car at all, just wan an upgrade in overall handling and ride since it's got 120k miles on sport suspension.
Also is there anything else I should change while I'm at it? Like bushings, bumpstops ect?

Get the Koni Yellows. They're designed to be used with lowering springs and you gain extra adjustability.

I will be installing Koni STR.T struts and dampers on my E92 next Monday. I will let you know how they'll feel. Though I will be installing a bunch of arms and stuff too so it might be hard to tell what's done what. The Koni STR.T. are made in Holland just like Koni Sport dampers, and they should handle lowering springs just fine unless you're slamming your car which will ruin it anyway. My only complaint about the Koni's is that there are some small unpainted areas on the shock, and I guess they'll start rusting from there sooner or later. I did spray paint mine to cover these areas the best I could but it isn't perfect. The yellows are the same. I paid around 260€ for all four, so they are very affordable. Time will tell how they will survive.

As someone who bought the oranges (and have been running them for 50k miles now) I wish I bought the yellows. Orange is basically stock sport replacement at best.

This is not exactly true. They do have different damping characteristics than the stock dampers, but are not as stiff as the yellows. Probably closer to oem than yellows in characteristics. From somewhere I read they are similar to yellows at full soft, but that might be rumors. For track work I’d get the yellows every day, but I don’t do that and I even ride on stock non m-sport springs. Also I’m not interested in adjustability that I won’t touch anyway. I’m sure BMW knows better than me how to set up a car for all around use anyway so why bother.

For more performance I’d just but a sports car.

I’ve read here that the orange rusts easily.

I just got the STR.T installed yesterday. Car is much tighter, leans less in corners and feels like sitting "higher in the stroke". Feels more light footed but with improved stability at the same time. All in all a big improvement, but that was expected. Probably the new front control arms, tie rod ends and mounting hardware also affected the characteristics quite a bit.

The main difference is that for some reason the car sits much higher with these Konis than it did before. Surely an inch or so, where does this come from!? Everything seems installed correctly and the spring sits nicely in it's place. Or perhaps this is how it is supposed to be (looks like a tractor though).

Will take a few day for it to settle.

Combination of needing to settle and replacing old compressed mounting hardware. You will need an alignment as well.

I did get an alignment, however the mechanics were surprised that the car sits so high still after several days. I don't know if it is higher than a new stock car or not, but it looks rather high still. Not abnormally so though I guess. Anyhow they had to adjust the camber since it had changed to positive after the new struts. They were even wondering if the Koni STR.T struts were made to be installed with their own springs, but that shouldn't be the case. They are also fully settled in the knuckles so there aren't too many things that could affect this.

Post a picture, I'll compare it to mine. I know mine went higher after install, but both shocks were blown and the mount was 1/2" compressed vs new so figured that was why. Do you have sport or standard springs?

I have standard non-sport springs 😊 The picture is taken at almost midnight, not much darkness here in the north this time of the year!

That's not a link, but probably normal for non-sport springs.

I had Koni STR.T. oranges paired with Tein S tech springs with e30 front perches and e36/z4 bumpstops. I thought it was a wonderful setup. I've heard that they're the same as yellow at full soft but they're unadjustable. They're also made in Mexico, not Holland so probably the quality is not quite as good but they specifically state they are okay to use with lowering springs and have lifetime warranty. I'd buy them again.

I don't know about the oranges they sell in the US, but the ones sold in Europe are made in Holland.

I've had STR-T on other platforms and while they were OK, I honestly found them a little soft to be used with lower springs. I think of them as more of a direct stock replacement with more compliant damping at lower and higher speeds but still with good control at higher speeds or bigger bumps.
