Battery dead, won't jump start

I forgot the lights on this morning at work and when i came back in few hours, car was almost dead, i could see the parking lights were still on but pretty dim. I knew it wasnt going to start.

I tried to start it, did a half crank and died completely. Next, i got someone to give me a jump and initially we hooked it up from the trunk i know.. then we figured out the right way to do it is from the engine bay.

So, dashboard flickers and car doesnt start. If i just put the key in, the lights come on, radio and a/c comes on while the jumper cables are hooked on.

I've read that resetting the IBS might help. Battery is not old, i've replaced it less than two years ago with an OEM battery from the dealer, was not coded in however since i swapped it out myself.

Any ideas ?

Why did you jump from the trunk? The jumpstart booster points are under the hood. Secondly, why not pull the battery out and get it tested. If those pass... then get the starter tested.

Because i've never had to jump start it so basically i didnt even know how to correctly jump start it. I know the starter could die without previous warnings but i highly doubt it's the starter. It's been starting up just fine until i left the lights on this morning

you need a real jumper box, not one of those lithium ones.

like this: https://www.amazon.com/Clore-Automot.../dp/B00CMP3Z1C

if you are jumping from another car, the other car needs to hold a constant rev at 2k rpms for 15 minutes. then try to start it.

A couple of thing you should test with a multimeter first would be the actual battery voltage. A fully charged battery should be 12.6v. Next thing to check would be the battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and tight. Do you have ISTA or INPA? Maybe read the fault memory as well if you have the equipment. I wouldn't rule out the starter. They can be working fine, then just stop without any warning at all.

Try a long slow charge these cars can be hard to jump.
And measure the battery voltage .
The IBS system can stop you from starting the car if the
battery gets low enough.

When my E90 battery was dying last week I used my diesel tractor to jump it. The tractor has a 2-month old Optima Red Top in it, which is 1000 cranking amps. The E90 needed about 5 minutes to let the tractor throw enough coulombs into the battery. Depending on sulfated your battery is, it may need some time to get charged enough. Also, batteries can just short out and not pass any current and just need to be replaced outright. If it needs 15 minutes, then the battery is in bad shape.

Most of the time, the cables aren’t making good between the 2 cars.
You should be able to jump start it even if it has no battery to hold a charge. IE no charging time.
