Yah, it's happened to us once in the past on a short trip out of town. We needed a tow and a tire. Obviously no one carries the right size, let alone the exact tire. We got something 18" to get us home and then swapped to the right tire afterward.
This only happened because I ignored a slow leak for over a month (without inspecting to see the nail in the tread ).

For the exceedingly rare situations the compressor, fix-a-flat, and plug kit can't get us out of the bind, we deal with the tow and hilarious tire offerings in the middle of nowhere.

No I totally get it, AAA or the like is a must if you run go-flats... It's mostly not an issue and yeah, flats don't happen often. But with the way I am, I just want to fix things now... so that makes the proposition of having to potentially wait for the right tires as a no go. If the flat happens around my hometown (which law of averages means it most likely will) I'm probably ok... there are a ton of tire shops and someone is bound to have what I need in stock. I can even park my car at home for half a day while I take care of it.

It's while on the road where that all goes out the window... I too am looking for the European spare kit... or a nice quality lightweight compact floor jack that I can squirrel away and my normal fix-it kit.

It's funny this just happened on one of my other cars recently... teeny tiny nail in between the tread was causing a super slow leak... I couldn't see it without removing the wheel, and the tire was losing air so slowly it wasn't a big deal... until I reset the TMPS, parked the car for the stay at home, and promptly forgot. I went out to drive it a few weeks later... well it was flat... and for some reason, the TPMS didn't go off after I reset it, so I drove about 120 miles on a flat RFT... The tire was absolutely trashed by the time I got home, cords showing and everything... lesson learned... Was surprisingly stable on the freeway though!

Since we wanted to keep the wagon's old wheels and tires as a back-up set, we grabbed some new TMPS sensors. The OEM units are quite expensive, so I went with the well-liked Autel stuff. This way I can code them myself as well. Insert maxi-pad joke here.

Its a little late now, but you can actually do some easy coding to make the car use the ABS sensors instead of the TPMS sensors to detect a flat.

The E84 instructions aren't exactly the same as our cars, but basically you code out $2VB and add in $265 to the KOMBI, DSC and CIC/CCC. You can also go through each of the .MAN files and look for anything that says RPA and make it "activ" and everything that says RDC "nicht_activ"

I've done it on three different cars now (2009 xDrive E91, 2011 xDrive E91, 2009 RWD E91), and its been slightly different modules each time, but if you use your head, you should be able to figure it out. Your RDC module should be next to your battery, BTW. Its a white box about the size of a deck of cards.

Yep that’s a good one. Heads up that the RDC on the cars I’ve don’t this to were in different locations. One near the battery box and one in the fender well of the right rear tire behind the liner near the battery box.

Tpms and RPA recalculate the next time you start the car, after resetting. So in your case the tpms recalibrated with an already flat tyre, hence no further warning. Glad no significant harm came of it!

It was in the fender well of my 2011, but next to the batttery on both of my '09s which is the same as the pre-LCI cars.

Here are the pics you've all been waiting for. Sorry for the delay.

The car actually settled quite a bit (maybe a full inch) after this, so it tucked in the front a bit even though it looks to poke a lot in the pics. The wheel gap also got much better. To try to show what it looked like after settling, I edited the first pic in the album to show about where it ended up. The last pic in the album shows the original wheels for comparison.
(The pictures in the album after the one of the tire are the ones I took before remembering to put the wheel center caps on.)

Sorry the pics are so anticlimactic, and I didn't take great fitment shots showing how flush (or not) they are like I usually do. The rear could maybe use a spacer depending how things go during our next load of firewood.

There is absolutely no rubbing up front or in the rear under any circumstances, so that's nice.

The tires are stretched a bit more than I typically like, but still fall in that performance or OEM-stretch category. It helps avoid rubbing, so here we are. There just isn't more room up front with this setup for more tire I don't think, and I'd like to stay square so the rears might just see a spacer if there is room while fully loaded.

Grip has greatly improved, making the lack of an LSD not so much of an issue anymore. Under normal driving I don't spin one rear tire all over the place anymore.

I missed the bolded part and I was very confused about the fall colors in your pics.

Anyways, I live right outside of Asheville. Did you find the low ride height annoying? I'm fine if I stay out of town, but heading into Asheville proper results in a couple scrapes every trip, and that's on stock sport springs. When I bought my wagon it had a scraped up bumper underside and I was planning on replacing it quickly. Then I drove it for a week and scraped another 10 times and decided to just leave it for now.

I guess I'm just not cut out for the #lowlyfe

I don't recall having any issues really at all. No doubt mine is also scraped up though. No plans to replace it any time soon as it'll just keep happening as you mentioned.

I think when we were down-town, we just parked and walked, so I might be missing the worst of it. We spent more time in Hendersonville, and on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I was actually just up there again last week for a drive with the Coupe folks. It's such a nice place for a drive.
