N54 Startup Squeak?
Hey all I own an 07 335i, I was wondering what cause this small squeak as seen in the vid. This began after my hpfp failed & I’d crank it a few times to diagnose what it was while the hpfp was failing. Fast forward now I fixed hpfp but this squeak is still there. *fyi the squeak was much more persistent during the failing hpfp startups* not related to belt or pulleys either. Thanks!

I get a chirp/squeak when starting my N52. Haven't bothered to diagnose it yet but I'll get to it - looking forward to the responses. Though mine isn't nearly as intense.
That sounds like metal on metal contact. Some N54s have an issue where the power steering pulley rubs against the subframe. Easy enough to inspect. |

Do all the pulleys spin freely with the belt removed? Could be the alternator pulley - it's a one way clutch type.
Is your AC compressor noisy when running by any chance? I have two E90s both with noisy AC compressors, though my 330 is louder. That's the car with the chirp on startup so I'm wondering if that's related. |

That sure seems like a long start-up, no?
It seems to happen as soon as the engine kicks over, maybe take a look for signs of the PS pulley on the subframe or coming loose. |

Yes the startup is longer than usual, expected to be a failing rail sensor which I’ll get to soon. & I’ll check my pulley though I changed it couple weeks ago.

Try removing the aux belt and starting up. If no chirp, then you can be sure that the problem is related to the aux belt/pulleys/etc. I think the alt pulley should be an over running (one way clutch) type, and I think the normal failure is that the clutch seizes.
