The reason many do it by themselves, me included, is that they don't trust the BMW scheduled service intervals (because they are so long) to keep the engine at peak health for its life. I change my oil by myself every 5000 miles (8,000 km) and I save like 30-45 bucks per oil change (depending on if I get oil on sale or not) versus paying the dealer and I don't have to deal with the hassle of the dealer telling me that I don't need an oil change, etc.
gotcha.

do you guys just put in the recommended oil amount and then check your engine oil level on the navi display?

how bout those of you who dont have the engine oil display?

why didnt they give us a dip stick?

guys without navi get the oil display too... just access thru the guage cluster.

You put in 6.5 litres of oil exactly and that will put you right on the "max" line of the oil level display.

um just to let you know, you can run crap gas in these cars all you want and it will not detonate...the car will just pull back a lot of timing and just burn it up faster.

How do I know? Guy at Sunoco pumped my 335 full of regular..after I told him twice (no speako englesh ) I walked inside to get something to drink and come out to find it full of 87...stupid fuck.

I drove it anyways, car was just slower, no response at all, and I burned the tank up in 2 days....no ignition timing really kills fuel efficiency..

Never knocked or harmed the engine..you can even boost it still but its just slow as heck.
