Physically remove xdrive?
Hi yall
just picked up my first 10' e90 335xi w/ n54 engine, im thinking about tranny swap(zf8/dct), but seems like awd transfer case might cause clearance issue and strength issue under high power. What im thinking is using xdelete to trick the computer, and remove transfer case and front diff etc. and for tranny programming, i guess i can ask for help from folks at xhp. thanks for anyone to point out the problems or suggestions. |

if it will prevent transfer case from blow up, i would love to use it, but what im afraid is even the transfer case clutch is not engaging, the gear inside it will still spin, if too much torque flowing in, it might cause damage.

Your concern is that ~100% of the torque flowing directly to the rear of the car could cause issues with the transfer case?
Just clarifying as, based on my understanding, there’s a physical connection between the input shaft of transfer case and the rear axle. I don’t believe this connection relies on any gears to transfer torque. So if you had the clutches more or less disengaged by using xDelete, a nominal amount of torque would still be transferred to the front driveshaft (which would spin the gears as you mention), but it shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Could be misunderstanding, but I think in your situation the concern would be limited to how much torque can be handled by connection between t-case input shaft and rear driveshaft output. Maybe that’s what you’d saying and I just misunderstood!

Just tune the ZF 6-Speed with xHP and use xDelete if you care about *just* having RWD.
You'll have fun this way without bankrupting yourself and become resentful of the car if the swap doesn't turn out the way you want. |
