I hate it also when these older aircraft go for scrap. Do the engines possibly get sold on say to countries with these older aircraft?

I gather you're an airline pilot and was wanting to ask do FAA or Western world rules apply to these older planes in so called third world countries if they fly within their territories.. |

There's been recently a few IFL Group 727s taking off from MIA that I've gotten to see and you automatically know it's either that or an MD80 from the sound. Haven't seen a 737-200 take off from here ever, at most a 300.
School will probably keep the engines if it gets cut up, number 2 worked at one point.. not the first time an old jet has gotten the saw here Old 707 that was here way before me, some teachers say it had corrosion so they cut it up, but supposedly it turned out to be clean inside. By then it's too late

Oh it hurts me to see an airframe cut up.
I get it - it's the best way, etc etc. But at one time, that thing flew - it defied land-based travel - it was designed to fly. |

Well government subsidy is in the works I'm sure. Then one day, they dissappear after no one is paying attention anymore doubling (or more) profits long term.

By the way, that is a 737-200, not a -100, still a virtual pterodactyl. I would be willing to engage in a reasonable wager that there is not a flyable example left anywhere. I also think that this is one of only a handful of intact examples, if not the only one. It will be a shame to see her go.

Supposedly the school is named after the president or something of that sort of Eastern Airlines and the county tried to rename it a few times but it was donated under the condition the name wouldn't be changed which is pretty smart of a move from him. You can see the rails for the cranes for the hangar still in the classrooms and engine shop.
The practical tests for the A&P license are done with General aviation propeller airplanes so having a similar plane to the MD80 taking up space probably doesn't make sense to the school board. Maybe it would if we were allowed to run the engines on it since the MD80 has none attached to it, but overreaching safety craziness means you aren't allowed to operate jet engines ![]()

No, those rules only apply when flying in the US, for the most part. The US and most other countries follow ICAO rules, so any airline wanting to operate in a country that follows ICAO rules needs to comply with the same rules. There are a bunch of airlines that are prohibited from flying in the US and EU due to their low operating standards.

George T. Baker was the President of National Airlines headquartered here in Miami. National had taken over the maintenance facility from Eastern, and in 1958 he donated the site to the School Board of Dade County who was looking for a home for their existing Aviation Maintenance Program. In 1961 the school was named in his honor, and National Airlines made sure that it would continue under his name.
Class dismissed.
