E91 Xdrive H&R springs/ Bilstein B8 issues

Good afternoon guys! I installed some H&R sport springs and Bilstein B8 to refresh the suspension on my Xdrive e91. After install I noticed it dropped the car a lot lower than expected. The car feels like it's bottoming out on the slightest bumps and kinda bounces going down the road. The alignment shop had mentioned that the spring up front is overlapping the base of the strut and it's not seating properly. I ran the part numbers for the springs and they actually came up for a e82 128i/135i. I called FCP about it and they sent me another set. They are the exact same springs that I currently have. I've installed struts and lowering springs on my previous e46 touring and my e30 track car so I'm no rookie. Just kinda confused what could be the issue. I've attached some pics below. The springs are rubbing on the outside of the strut housing.

I don't think the spring is the problem. It looks, to me, that the strut doesn't have the correct base plate for carrying that spring.

Exactly, it's like the base is not wide enough. Part numbers check out which is weird. I've got another set of B8's coming and H&R springs.

Just to ask the stupid question ... are the springs possibly installed upside-down?

Emailed FCP euro. It appears they sent me e82 128i/135i springs based on the part numbers. They sent the same wrong springs again. They're looking into their warehouse to see what the issue is. You can clearly see the Xdrive springs have more coils in them for the added weight of the wagon vs the 1 series springs.

I actually had a similar issue with FCP sending me the wrong part number when I replaced the shocks in my M Roadster - twice sent me B6 instead of B8. Hopefully you can get an intelligent person on the phone and explain the situation - that worked in my case, and it ended up being a problem in their stock-keeping tracking system.

That was my first thought too. Note that the springs on the e91 are different than on the e90 as well (as you stated higher spring rates to deal with the wagon weight). You want PN 50494-3 for the e91 xDrive

Like the box of H&R springs they shipped me has a sticker not from the factory with the correct part number. But open the box and the springs are wrong. Hopefully that is the issue. They said they're looking into it, I'm gonna follow up tomorrow.

A bit disappointing that FCP appears to be going somewhat downhill recently. I have been ordering parts from them for years, last count i had spent slightly over $6K in parts with them over the years and only ever needed to warranty an Alternator.

Recently they forgot to include one of the lift support struts for my trunk in the order and the wheel bearings I received were absolutely destroyed from banging around on the brake rotors that were in the same box... they did correct the issues very quickly but I never had these issues with them in the past.

This story makes me think there is a definite logistical issue with their shipping department that apparently is not isolated to just my last couple of orders.

Like the box has the correct label with the part number but obviously the springs do not. They sticker on the box doesn't look factory either. Like it was slapped on after the fact.

This is the first big issue I've ever had with them. One time I was shorted a 5L jug of oil. Other than that everything has been smooth. I send my worn out brakes to them all the time.

Yeah I had never had an issue with them until a couple of months ago, since then both of my recent shipment had some type of issue or damage. I'm hoping it was just a few flukes and not an indication in future issues.

Anyway hopefully they can get you the correct parts once and for all.

BTW do you mind posting pictures of your car on the sport springs once you have them installed? I currently have the Race Springs also on Bilstein B8 but i think im getting a bit old for the super stuff ride interested in seeing how low yours looks on the sport springs.

Yeah I'll post pictures after it's fixed. Apparently they only make sport springs for the Xdrive wagon. I'll update the thread whenever it gets straightened out.

Update:

FCP emailed me and all their kits are the same from what they have sent me. They are working with H&R to send me the correct springs now.

Please note that even that label isn't right. Your wagon will require stiffer rear springs to deal with the added weight on the rear. It has to be the 50494-3 variant, specific for the Xi Wagon.

Yeah I've ordered the 50494-3 twice now. They're working with H&R to get the correct ones.

Update:

Still no change, I've been working with H&R directly now and they're looking into the issue. If anyone has any stock e91 Xdrive springs I'd be glad to take them off your hands. I'm over waiting on them to resolve this issue.

I have H&R springs and Bilstein B4 shocks that just came off my E91 that I’m going to be posting soon. They have no more than 3k miles and reason for selling is I upgraded to ST coils. Send me a DM if you are interested in either the spring, shocks or both

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have the same box of springs with the label 50494 but the springs say 29187. I haven't installed them yet. Purchased them from FCPEuro in January. I have an E90 LCI and now I'm concerned about installing them on my B8's.
