New day a new problem - rear fender paint peeling any advice

Finally got some alone time with the car after it being at the bodyshop for a new hood and I find this. Is that literally the whole paint peeling off from under the fender? I assume a whole repaint of the area would be needed to fix this properly? The paint doesn't protrude like that in the photo I just put my finger and pulled a bit to demonstrate.

As the rest of the paint looks fine, I'd get some epoxy glue, and glue the strip of paint back on the fender. Then cross your fingers and go have a beer.

Ah good idea.

Anything that would be best? What even is the material that is being glued here technically...

I'm thinking either regular JB weld or superglue?

I'd glue it down with clear silicon caulking, hopefully seals the rust and prevents further issues.

No, dumb idea. Buy por-15, apply it, wait for it to become tacky and fold the paint back on it. Edge is also showing paint cracks so sand it a little, lightly with 1000 or up sand paper and spray it with 2k clear coat.

OP, JB Weld is epoxy. Superglue is not a good idea, as it it not waterproof.

Silicone rubber will work, for that matter, anything waterproof will work.

I've had success in the past using black nail polish. Its been a while since I've owned those wheels, but from what I remember it worked very, very well.

POR 15 seems to be difficult to obtain here.

I might actaulyl talk about it at the bodyshop I'm going at the same time maybe they can fix it for me in a more proper way if not I'll look at your way.

Regarding JB weld why is it bad? Wouldn't JB weld seal up the air gaps and not let it rust?

Metal exposed to water or moist air starts to rust immediately. POR-15 or similar product stop rust, JBweld does not. Super glue does not either. Those suggestions were stupid.

Maybe if you live where I do and it doesn't rain and the temp is between 50-80 90% of the time and there is no road salt.

Also, you will have to do a perfect job.

And even then it would probably last a couple of years.

I think fundamentally JB Weld would work for a period of time effectively, but there are certainly no guarantees. I think you could most certainly guarantee that in 2 years in Canada you can expect to be doing rust removal and re-painting.

But I dunno maybe people all over the world are using JB Weld for this kind of paint repair? It'd be the first time I've heard of it, however.

I really don't want to deal with rust.

But then if it does rust wouldn't it go under the BMW warranty that is like 12 years.

Not if it's a repair. And that is a rust-through warrantee. Surface rust they won't cover.

Just swing by a body shop and explain the situation. See what they say. I'm guessing they'll repair for free in 15 mins

To update I figured I'd get it done at bodyshop since they are fixing my second accident now. They will repaint from down under to the wheel arch bodyline. Hopefully shouldn't be to easy to spot.

The rust warranty comes with a huge caveat, which is a BMW dealer must wash the underbody of the car on an annual basis in accordance with BMW specification. It's basically a get out of free card for BMW.

Would that apply to any rusted parts or just things related to under the car?

My friend got a brand new trunk and painted with the BMW warranty on his 2008 and he told me it went smoothly and didn't mention anything about
