There are 400w and 600w OE units available. One was for cars with the Towing Package which I do not believe was available in the US. Neither will be quiet but if yours is loud it's probably old.
I'm sure you could rig some kind of finger chopper arrangement but I'm not sure if it's neccessary. Even the late great JustPete had the OE fan on his race car. |

I know it's summer and the thing turns on high when you have AC on, etc, but it's loud. Mostly i'm trying to eliminate the extra noise caused by the dying nature of this fan so i thought to see if there was something better on the market. Okay, thank you for the reality check |

The only upgrade is to run the 335is 800W radiator fan.
edit: Oh wait, this is the NA subforum so maybe the normal 600W 335i fan is an upgrade.

Yes I think the motors are the same but the shroud is different. They're different part numbers though

the 335 fan won't fit according to the picture comparison I see. But you can get the 600W version, I found it on ECS tuning. part number is 17427562080. There's an aftermarket version for way cheaper too (TYC).

Has anyone looked at the real duty cycle of the Stock Fan? I can't say too much about the 3 series, but the N52 cooling in my E85 was robust, that fan never had to run hard. Except with the AC was active. The DME will set the fan to higher speeds with the Air conditioning compressor tuned on, even if the coolant temperatures are low. The DME controls the coolant temperature anyways, you can't change the engine operating temperatures with a more powerful fan. |

I pulled a 2000 pound trailer 2100 miles last July with the stock 400w fan and a six speed. I also had about 800 pounds of stuff in the car, not including the large mammal that is my body.
Oil temp was more of a concern than coolant temp. A 60/40 water:coolant mix never exceeded 215 F. However, I almost pulled over once pulling a very tall hill east of Albuquerque, WOT in 3rd Gear at about 70 MPH because my oil temps were approaching the Serious Shit level. Sorry, my gauge cluster has an MPG label there, but it was about 3/4 of the way, so at or above the High dot on a sport cluster. With that said, if the 400w fan can do that, I don't know if I see the point in an upgraded fan for our cars. There are 328 race cars running the stock fan.

Just get a stock fan and be done with it.
If you're worried about temps, consider the 335i oil cooler or even just the hot weather version of the heat exchanger. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1412435

I think the original poster was looking for a replacement fan to begin with, but there are many options out there that seems like an upgrade. And I can understand if my fan went out and need a new one, for congruent pricing, I'd probably go for a higher grade fan anyways. But I agree with you all, no point upgrading the fan just for the hell of it, our stock fan are just fine the way it is.
