The incidents with melting wiring posted here from time to time is about not making solid good electrical connection between pins. On a high current flowing contact point if contact resistance is high it heats up.

Got in touch with a dealership, they said BMW will pay for temporary rental before the fix.

What?! The recall involves 1 million cars. Are they gonna pay for everyone's rental?

For those of you that neglect your oil pan leak not that this correlates or goes hand in hand but I had one and when I took the oil pan off there were two bolts in the pan. They were from the oil pump which is held on by 3 bolts. So I dont know maybe you should eventually get it looked at. My car had 143k on it at that time.

Technically BMWNA should be responsible for alternate transportation if the recall stated the vehicle is no longer safe in operation.

My guess the rental will be an Enterprise's Nissan Versa or something.

My dealership gives me a free loaner even during oil changes, so I expect the same when it goes in for recall repair.

Anyone know how long the repairs will take?

Back in 2016 they put me in a 2016 328i with halogen headlamps, flat black paint and black leatherette. I was like are you joking my man? After 5 days of that I went back and demanded to speak to the GM. Then they put me in a black sapphire 328i with adaptive LED and the saddle leather and the fancy cameras and heads-up display.

Just joking I took what they gave me and they were the two above cars. After 30 days you're supposed to go back and redo the paperwork, this went on 4 1/2 mos.

There's no fix or remedy available from BMWNA yet. So it can take months, with the amount of vehicles involved.

I don't think BMW will give out millions of loaners for months. Unless you are buddy of the GM/SA etc.

At least I'm not.

No joke, I rarely make it to the dealer anymore, about the only thing I'd want them to do is an alignment. But last time I was in a hurry to get to work and two women came back and basically were told they could cut in front of me since they were already in that morning. They wanted new colors for their loaners. One lady was apologetic, so this was not a joke. lol I've taken 428i's with dents, X3's with rear wipers broken off, and even a 128i convertible (I did my best not to be seen in it but I did not go back)

Well, I mean once BMW has the car in possession for the repair how long does the actual fix take?

+1

But the dealership told me they will store my car for now, but I might have to drive it back home if the wait for the fix is too long.

So....the rental I got was 2018 430i convertible.
Apparently the Enterprise across the street from the dealership has a fleet of BMWs for service/loaner/recalls.

No, it was from Enterprise. I was genuinely surprised when the Enterprise staff carrying a bunch of BMW keys (no way you can mistaken them).

So there's a fleet of BMWs that particular Enterprise holding, which bills to "***DEALERSHIP*** BMW TAKATA", so there's an account they set up for any recall campaigns. So they can bill back to BMWNA I believe.

Last night there's a choice of various basic BMWs.
2x 328i
1x 430i
2x X3 ?Drive28i

Given I was the first one have my car stored at the dealership and request for temporary transportation. The duration of the rental is unknown at the moment.

They kindly stored my vehicle indoor second floor.

Keep in mind, some other dealerships might get you some random Toyota Corolla if you asked.

You can ask BMWNA to reimburse for the fix. Plus the part you installed could still be the older one and you can still ask for the recall campaign fixes.

I'm a little confused here.

I can bring my blower motor/PCV recalled E90 to BMW and tell them to hold on to it until the safety recall is fixed and they have to give me a rental for free?

Or is this for the airbag recall (my VIN isn't affected) in which case I would also be telling them to give me a loaner cause fuck that death trap shit.
