From 19" to 17" - 245/45/17

Bit of a report for anyone interested:

Recently bought an '08 335xi. Previous owner had really nice OEM 442 rims with 225/40/19 front and 255/35/19 rear, Eagle Asymmetric 2 RFT. Liked the look, handled awesome - but the ride I found incredibly harsh, especially on our poor roads.

Ordered Potenza 980AS, Non-RFT but same size. Potenzas were quiet, smooth, and handled really well IMO. A great tire. Ride quality was improved, but still far too harsh for the potholes in our area.

Bit the bullet and went looking for more sidewall. Settled on 17". Square setup this time - 245/45/17 all around. Bit bigger than the stock 225/45. Went with Conti DWS06. Night and day difference. I don't track or anything so for me, the handling difference is barely noticeable - still handles like a charm. But the ride quality has dramatically improved. It's a pleasure to drive once again, without fearing every bad bit of road. Best $ I've spent on the car.

Thanks for the info. I'll be going down the same route soon. I went from 19s runflats to non runflats and then down to 18s non runflats....defo an improvement...but 17s are on the cards. I like my comfort :-)

I did the exact same thing, but I'm still waiting on my tires. Post pics of your setup!
