Another Keyfob Thread
New to BMWs, new to forum.
Purchased 2011 e92 328i with 75000 miles from used car dealer. Beat up key fob had manual key that fit door lock and would start car with fob inserted in dash. Would not unlock doors. Dealer told me fob needed new battery. Didnt think it would be a big deal. Had a locksmith make a new key, 240$, and put a new case on old key. He took the module out from under steering wheel and took it into his van. made new key, replaced module then told me there was a problem with the car because the keys were sending signal, showed me with a meter. Both keys start car. Took car to BMW Indy shop for 1/2 hr diagonistic. Told me I needed new diversity module at 429$ with 1 hr to install and program. Bought used diversity module on ebay and installed. Fobs didnt work. Old module circuit board looked clean and perfect. Indy said he had no techs avaliable for a while so I took car to local dealer. Service adviser said 1hr diagnostic they would fix it or locate problem. Didnt find anything in 1 hr then then wanted 2 more hrs, almost 600$ to find problem. Both shops say car recognizes keys in slots 6 and 9. Getting different stories about diversity module needing to be programed. Also cover for rear view mirror missing, dont know if that has anything to do with the fobs. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks |

Do you have comfort access?
Did you mean the keys were sending a signal that the car didn't recognize? Or weren't sending a signal at all? https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510527 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=903551 read the Mashman chronicles starting at entry in link 13 above. Yes it has comfort access. Was told by both shops that the fobs are giving a signal and are recognized by the car. The indy shop said keys are in slots 6 and 9 and they reset them to 1 and 2. Dealer said they are i slots 6 and 9 so maybe they werent reset? Will read the thread you sent and try to let it sink in. Thanks

If you read the Mashman chronicles as indicated
you will note that you have have a maximum of two CA keys and BMW keeps a master list of which ones are used. BMW probably won't have a clew if they are programmed for slots that are not in there database. They use the database and assume nobody has messed with it . GoodingBMW is noted to be and expert on this stuff. the guy in the ytube video. |
