Help needed for map update

I'm trying to update the map on my 2010 E90 LCI. The car has the Premium Map from the factory. I have downloaded the 2016-2 map and burnt it onto DVD.

Once I inserted the DVD, the following screen appear.

1) Does it mean the map I have in the car is newer than the DVD?
2) Why the screen did not show my current map version or the map version on the DVD?

Thanks in advance.

It means the DVD is a newer version.

Also why aren't you updating the maps via USB in the glovebox?

Cool, thanks. That's what I thought as well and just wanna double confirm.

What's the benefit of updating it via USB over DVD? Just curious.

quicker, less likely to run into issues from cheap DVDs/burn speed too high, if driving around while updating then any DVD read errors/rereads from going over large bumps in road etc won't affect load speed etc etc. Also the USB versions can come as one USB so don't need to do it in 3 parts... Definitely go for USB if you can. Ps there will be 2017 maps out now, no point using old 2016 maps

That?s normal. It?s saying that because you put in a DVD with newer maps than your car has, which is exactly what you?re trying to do... you will also need a FSC code to upload the data.

Thanks, yea I still need the FSC code which I'm still trying to obtain. I'm trying to use the USB to Ethernet method, but looks like the USB dongle that I'm using isn't compatible as there is no connected network after setting the IP address.

Do you still need help? We can do it for you, if you have an ethernet port on your laptop.
