New Tires - 245 front 275 rear

i just took my friend to get new tires on his 2006 325i with sport package and they fit perfectly without rubbing, 245/45/17 in the front and 275/40/17 in the rear, this is on stock wheels too. as of right now it looks good but i think hes going to be getting some small spacers and get the stock wheels powder coated gloss black within the next few months. after he gets the spacers im almost certain he can run a 255/285 combo all around on his next set of tires which wont be for a while. but it does look a lot better from the stock 225/255 that were on there. the tires are Sumitomo HTR A/S tires btw, and seem to grip just fine compared to the old HTR ZIII that were on there, the only other option he had was PS2's but they were $700 more so he went with the Sumitomos instead since they are just daily driver tires and didnt need to be anything too intense. Ill get some pictures up tomorrow when i get some free time and it isnt dark.

This absolutely doesn't make sense. Not at all.

1.) What is the model of rim in question?
2.) What is the diameter of said rim?
3.) What is the width of said rim?

The PS2 is a "quality" tire but not an "intense" tire, not by any stretch of the imagination. The Sumitomo isn't even in the ballpark, let alone in the game.

1. The rim in question is a 161, 17x8 in the front, 17x8.5 in the back.
2. if you would have read the post i stated that the tire size was 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17. 245 being the section width, 45 being the aspect ratio and 17 being the wheel diameter thus 245/45/17, which anyone with basic knowledge of cars should know.
3. refer to 1 and 2

this is just a daily driver, if he wanted to track the car he would go with a slick on a whole different lightweight rim setup not stock rims, but seeing as he is in college i don't expect him to be doing this anytime soon.

Your haughtiness and arrogance is disgusting. The very fact that you'd write the way you did to someone who was trying to offer assistance is absolutely offensive. I see the above is your 2nd post on this forum - so obviously you don't know that I've raced under the Bridgestone name for close to 15 years and am considered a tire expert on these boards - so obviously I lack the basic knowledge needed to help you. Great way to join a forum - throw around insults just because you were asked for clarification and verification. Maybe someone else will help you - because I'm not going to.

Oh and by all means, make sure you get tires that are not meant for the car in question just because you think you have the "look" issue resolved and you think the cost is ok... no matter what the vehicle's metrics dictate.

OP, good to know a 245/45R17 will fit on the front for sure.

Tire expert eh?
Seeing as how I've worked with Bridgestone for 15 years, was involved in the street testing and evaluation of the RE-11 for the U.S. market and was in fact the very first recipient of a public use set of the RE-11, yes. Then there's the substantial number of PM's I routinely get on tire related issues on this forum due to posts such as this one from earlier today:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=384564&page=2

Seems people appreciate what I have to say on the subject.

Bad day Daniel? Holy cow you need to relax. I find that a good glass of wine usually does the trick.

I find that any day that I get to end with at least a few minutes driving in my car usually isn't that bad.

Interesting. I'm not on these forums as much as other people so I don't know the "cast of characters" very well, but you came off just as arrogant as the OP did.

275/40/17 tires on OEM 17x8.5 wheels, talk about anti-stretched.

"Just as?" I'm sorry. I don't see how asking for clarification/validation of information (which is ALL I did in my first post in this thread) is the same as comments suggesting ineptitude and stupidity.

I think you're just trying to stir the pot.

Sorry it took me a while to post, i've been busy cramming for finals and working.

Any who, this had been planned out way before i had come here and i had never asked for help in the first place from anyone. I used to work at a race shop throughout high school (Colvin Automotive, the guys who built the Lance Armstrong GTO for Overhauling) and i did do my fare share of mounting tires on magnesium and forged aluminum wheels for porsches, vipers and corvettes to name a few that were strictly track cars, on top of helping run the dyno and regular shop work, so i am pretty well versed on the subject. secondly i had already talked at length to some of my friends who work over at Boost Logic here in town who said my friend would be perfectly fine running those tires on a stock sport suspension (one of my best friends works there so im up there periodically helping him and some of the other guys out with stuff). I never once asked for anyone's help all i was doing was stating that it could in fact be done so others would have some information to build on if they so desired to do the same.

And as promised pictures:
(Taken on an iphone while picking up a can of wet tire at autozone)

Interesting, but I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind this. Was your friend looking for a "bubblier," wider look? Because that's what it looks like with the tall sidewalls now. He also increased his rolling diameter by almost 3%!

And how will spacers enable him to fit even wider tires?

So. You posted on a forum - but didn't "ask for anyone's help" therefore you should have been rude and condescending when you presented numbers known to diverge from spec. and were questioned to verify said information? Yeah, right. That makes sense.

I saw the photos - all I see is a sidewall acting in a way it was not intended to be - and forcing the tire to perform in way it shouldn't. I know the kids who work at my local tuning/race shop... they operate all the equipment, too. Doesn't mean they are permitted to make install decisions. Just because something can fit doesn't make it right.
