If you do, all you need is a CVBS to 3.5mm adaptor and youre working!

You don't NEED the cradle.
The link is the one i bought but you can find them cheaper if you look.

It depends on what do you want to do ? If you just want to play videos from your phone and you have an iPhone with the old connector... NO you can buy a simple Y cable for that.

If you want to mirror your iPhone or tablet wirelessly then yes.
You're probably going to need the combox(i think)

Well they don't have to sell them for $50 but - if they want me to buy one over one for $50 with only slightly lower resolution and not as good functionality then....

I don't need it to be WiFi, cable connection is OK. I mainly entertain this so I can have MHD/JB4 gauges on the CID. My old iphone4 displays only 4 gauges vs 6 gauges on iphone5

For the 5 and for the android, unless they have an analogue video out .... Wifi. It's almost the same amount of work regardless.

The story is that the unit is dummy fitted into the car and uses FBAS 2 input. I used some left over pins from my combox install to wire into the CIC you can see FBAS 1 pins from the TV module in the picture.and the grey wires on pins 3 and 11 are the wifi video.

When i tried to connect the phone the video icon was greyed out. I chased my tail for a while but it was ultimately because the iPhone 4s i was using didn't have video content.

The setup
iPhone 4 connected to the centre console USB port and the combox connection to USB 2 which would normally be the snap in

I found that by playing a file on the phone the screen would come up. The audio gos from the iPhone 4. Theres two settings at the bottom of the MEDIA module TRC and that USB is set to digital and i think it needs to be analogue. I need to figure out where the input for audio will be. I think that it may be on the CIC but it may be on the COMBOX as well.

Apart from that the 7 connects and streams content. I never have to update my nav and i can view MHD gauges and movies on the screen.

Once i get audio routed through ill need to mount up the device above the CIC permanently. Otherwise its finished.

This is screen mirror, all in the phone will be displayed on CIC. So the CIC screen is not fullscreen. Is there any way for video airplay as we play the video on Youtube and it will display fullscreen on TV?

Not that I've been able to achieve. The video is scaled correctly so any change will distort the image aspect ratio.

If the Iphone 5 is plugged in the cradle, I have some questions:

1. It will transfer the video & audio to the CIC? No need the video cable and audio cable (AUX)?
2. Video playback is Ipod interface on CIC? Can it transfer youtube video on Iphone to CIC?

If Iphone 5 & later Iphones can't do above because lightning 8 pin only support digital output, can I use Iphone 4/4s (30 pin) with 4/4s cradle to transfer music/video to CIC?

iPhone 5 has the newer connector and I don't think BMW ever catered for that with a multimedia snapin but I'm happy to be corrected on that.

My solution doesn't really care. As long as you have combox and CIC the right coding any device that has DLNA like Apple or android will be able to play wirelessly through the adaptor

In my application The iPhone 4 can be used as a dummy so that this will make the CIC think that's where the video is coming from. It can also connect directly through component video cable.

But an IPhone 4 isn't ideal. And the wifi adaptor opens this up to any device really. Make sense ?

Yes, after some days reseach, I think the best way to play video is airplay. So both Iphone and wifi adapter need to connect to the same wifi network?

The airplay adaptor is its own wifi network and the phone connects automatically ...

Yes the audio goes through airplay and therefore through analogue audio that would normally come from the media snap in
