What do you think of this video?
It appears to me that iTronics ITB-100HD is better during the nights / low light but otherwise its over exposed.
Whereas Cowon AW1 works excellent in normal daylight but reasonable when its dark.

Great write up bud.
Preferences are different for different people.
For example, if I was after a cheap and economical car then, I would be driving VW passat with more space in the boot or japanese car in terms of reliability.
But opted for beemer for fun.
When it comes to dashcams, DOD is best quality camera but size and shape is the drawback. Can't see mini dslr hanging on to the windscreen.
My preference is compact, sleek dashcam without lcd but with wi-fi.
So I can connect it to my phone to see the live video or at least record samples. And to be able to adjust the specs with phone so no need to connect it to laptop.

Only few dashcam can do.
I've been keeping an eye on Blackvue for a while but night video recording is shocking.
Then looked at IONE, and again video quality is the problem. Also few members reported it killing the memory card within months.
Finally ordered COWON from UK dealer so if any problem arises, I can return it.
Video quality is good if not excellent but phone application is better than all other competitors.
Having external GPS makes it better as I have been told that external GPS antenna picks up signals quicker.

Awaiting for delivery now!

Thanks for input though and keeping this thread alive.

Nice work makkan/moralhazard really helps. Makkan let us know how you get on. You're right about different preferences, some people can live with the size and some can't.

I have heard the same thing about the external gps logger.

DODLS430W - Inbuilt GPS £144
DODLS330W - External GPS £154

Does anyone know what the differences are, apart from the GPS, of the above cameras?

Thanks moral hazard

I have emailed DOD UK and here are there responses to my emails for anyone else wanting this info. I asked the about the different dash cans:

Quote:
Hi,

Thank you for your email.

The DOD LS330W is an upgraded model for the DOD LS300W, with multiple feature improvments like image rotation, plate stamp, white balance, password protection and optionaly High Speed GPS Antenna,
LS400W is new model with image rotation, plate stamp, white balance, password protection (features like LS330W) but no GPS option
LS430W have all this functions + built-in GPS antenna

model LS300W probably will be no longer available in our store due to new upgraded ls330w version (in the same price).

Picture quality is the same in all this models LS300W/LS400W/LS330W/LS430W

when you make a pre-order there is an limited time offer for:
LS330W £129
LS430W £144

LS330W and LS430W should be available soon.

If you have any questions, please, feel free to ask.

Kind regards,

Really happy it has a plate stamp, so i can imbed my license plate onto videos Then i asked him what the exact difference are between the LS430W and the LS330W:

Quote:
Hi,

LS300W/LS330W/LS400W/LS430W - Due to same camera sensor (1/3" CMOS) picture quality is the same,

difference between the LS430W and the LS330W is one has GPS built in and the other has an external GPS mouse,

DOD-Tech UK warrants that the DOD DVR CAMERA will be free from defects in material or

I think i've made my decision and it looks like its the LS330W. Only reason being its slight smaller in size and it has an optional external GPS mouse. Apparantly the external GPS mouse works faster and more accurate than the internal.

Is the mouse easily available & do you have any idea of size?

Yes its available, along with the actual cam, to preorder. Should be out in two weeks. Pics of mouse: http://dod-tech.co.uk/ls330w.html Seems quite small.

Guys just realised a difference between LS430W and LS330W. The LS430W has an internal recording memory of 128M, along with the usual micro SDHC card. How important is the internal memory?

(I've enquired about a group buy of DOD cams)

My LS400W has internal 128mb memory like LS430W, but i can't use this memory for record videos, probably this memory is only for system files and cannot be use for recording video or take pictures.

without memory card camera showing "Please insert SD card"...and i can't record video.
memory card must be in the camera for video recording.

Cheers. I think i just read somewhere that the internal memory is for buffering or something.

Guys DOD have offered £5 off the first 10 units of the LS430W and the first 10 units of the LS330W we order. I am trying to get a better discount as i know that offer probably won't appeal to most people.

Moral Hazard, can you kindly upload a RAW video of your dashcam or upload it to youtube? I am interested in night time video?
I do not trust the vedor's videos.

My dashcam arrived last night. And I have taken few footages and wants to compare it. Though there is no chance that my dashcam can record as good as DOD, but wi-fi makes me happy and the fact that I can setup the camera through my mobile and see the live view.

Quick video (change the video to 1080P)

Since this is my first camera, therefore I cannot comment on the video quality. Can someone check the RAW video and comment?

Quick Review:
Good points;
- Design
- Camera quality seems good
- It has iphone / android software
- You can see the live view and adjust the camera
- You can adjust settings through camera

Bad points;
- Designed for Left hand drive and not user friendly with Right hand drive cars
- The cigarette lighter has not light so you are not sure if its working or not
- iphone application crashed only on one setting
- I could not change the time through the iphone application and time was incorrect
- Some pixelation during the night time recording
- GPS antenna and external video share the same socket, so you can use one at a time. You cannot have GPS connected and video out. (Shame!)

I will record videos during the day and upload it to show the difference.

And here is the RAW video if somebody really wants to try

I think the prices for these cams will go to RRP when they are released. If anyone wants to buy them now, DOD have set up a web page for us with the offer, so you can buy direct. Just send me a pm and i'll send you the link. I know its only a fiver off the current pre order price but thats the best i could do.

Not going off the topic.
But uploaded a video to compare it to others.
Here is a video out of my dashcam during the day

Change the quality to p1080

If you watch it properly, you'll be able to spot a nice matt black M3.
