100th Anniversary of the Armistice to end World War I

The Armistice to end the First World War was signed at the 11th hour of the 11th Day of the 11th month 100 years ago today.

Many of my family served in the First and Second World wars, and two of my children have served with the Canadian Armed Forces.

I hope we can all take a moment at 1100 hrs to day and reflect on the sacrifices of the millions of young men and women who serve and have served to give us our freedom and to continue to preserve it.

Lest We Forget.

Lest we forget.

Because we want to remember it, so we don't repeat it.

My great-grandfather fought in the US Army in both World War I and World War II. His son, my grandfather fought in the US Marine Corps in Korea. Both were named Fritz, and I am as well.

Very important to remember our veterans and these horrific events so that our children will never have to endure what they did.

I was lucky enough to do a private tour with my Wife and Son of the Somme battlefields when we were over there two years ago.

A couple of my Great Uncles were killed in the "Great War" and one in the Battle of Bullecourt.

The tour guide investigated how my Uncle died and took us, as close as could be calculated, to where he was injured in the battle. We could see how the Australian Army was funnelled into this position where the German's could just take them down with machine gun fire.

Imagining how these young men would have felt is horrible and it must have been harrowing for them!

To stand there almost 100 years later I could almost see it unfolding, it was one of the most emotional and poignant things I have ever done.

Lest We Forget!
