Found me a new gig

Well I got picked up at a new company. I start on the 10th. The pay is less, but it comes with tips. Also a twenty minute commute compared to an hour.

I'm going from working with residential windows to working in the Florida cannabis industry. I'm excited for this opportunity. Also helps that I'm a patient.

I hope you aren't disappointed, but somehow I feel like you may not get the tips you are thinking.

Time will tell, good luck in the new job though - there are other perks if the tips don't come through.

Myself, while I'm not sure I'd ever purchase cannabis, I can't really see why I'd think to tip. Be like tipping the server at McDonalds no? I mean there's a menu in both, pick your choice, order it, it comes in a bag and you walk out. I just don't know why the front person would get tipped.

Maybe if you rolled it for them or something? Why do you believe you'll get tipped? Since you are a patient, is it fair to assume you tip and if so, why?

Oh, I'm familiar with your previous place of employment. I try to be aware of most of what goes on in OT.

Interesting though - never figured on there being tips. I guess you just split at end of day.

I would assume, after watching the videos to make sure the Chief could see them in our local municipality, that the person at the front counter can really help explain the difference between strains, how one might be better than another for a particular feel or issue, and tell the customer about sales, other products, etc.
KTB would be able to discuss "taste", no?

All worth an extra $5 in the kitty.

So in other words, do their job? lol The whole "I deserve a tip" mentality needs to be abolished.

Come Oct 17, the Canibus industry is going to explode here in Canada, We've been pushing investment opportunities these past 2 years like it was end of alcohol prohibition era. More than enough cash going around for well paid low level employees, however, serving isn't difficult and will eventually be replaced by automation anyway.

Ok this has fallen off the deep end.....

Stop focusing on tips...

UncleWede is correct, however it might be a cultural thing. I know in the states tipping is customary. In other countries its not. Some things just have to be excepted.

Having the knowledge and understanding to better assist customers is what I think will be the most important thing.

Studies show that the majority of Cannabis users are the elderly. I know from first hand experience that they are looking for relief and don't know much. So sitting down and helping them understand the different methods of medicating and how each strain will affect them will be the most beneficial thing.

It's not about the $$, my house is paid for, it's about helping people because I know how much it helps me.

the "doing their job" comment has me thinking. In any job you can just do your job. Hell I could do customer service, take money, give product. Yup thats the job, however taking the time to personally interact with people and assist them actually is going beyond doing your job. Hell I can mop a floor, but taking my time and doing it right vs just doing it is a difference.

Understanding this will go a long way...

Right, but in the same regard, as a service person or sales person, that IS your job. To know the product and advise the customer on making a choice which meets their individual needs.

The art of "Salesman" is a dying breed, reward those whom excel and leave the others as you just described. The idea of tipping needs to be banned. Any market will adjust or fail based upon what the consumer will accept, unfortunately we in North America have given into this poor model of service industry. That will be the downfall when full automation comes. Bring on the robot overlords!

I disagree... I like the American model myself. Have you every tried to get good service in Europe? They could give a shit less what you want, unless they think you're American and will tip them that is.
