Please save my sanity!

Hi there,

I need help or even councilling!

Just before finding you guys I've been happily driving the roads of the UK in my E46 320d, but after 90K miles it came time to change and move on to an E91.

That was the easy part. Choosing a colour was a completley different ball game!
Having had silver and grey Beema's I was looking for a change and therefore walked into my local dealer ready to sign up for a Mystic Blue E91.
Then my mental state took a turn for the worst.
As I walked in, there in prime position was an magnificant machine that had just arrived from its home in Germany.

As I stood in bewilderment the sales guy pounced, and before I new what I'd done I had signed up on the dotted line and left the dealer as a new expectant father of an .................................Electric Red E91.

All was fine until a couple of weeks later I stumbled across you guys!
Having read most of the threads I could, it became clear that I must have made a mistake. I mean everybody on your side of the world was ordering artic, s.g, blk or white.
At first I thought that e.r simply wasn't available or that maybe it was only on my E91. This is when I started to become paranoid and began to question my sanity. What had I done?

Anyway the times getting closer and my 'unique' machine will soon be arriving. But will it be as magnificent as it was the first time I saw its brother? or will I end up in a sanitairium, realising why you lot over there stick to the 'normal' colours?????

Please help?

As the weeks tick by, in your imagination, that color has gone from fabulous shiny "I must have it red" to flat, weird, "what was I thinking red".

On delivery, all shiny and new, any color will be magnificent.

When you drive home, you will not be able to see the outside. In fact, you will not really be able to see at all, as you mind is full of how great life is that you have your new BMW.

Everyone will love it. You will too.

I loved, loved, loved my red Celica. Red is a great color for cars.

BTW - I ordered my E91 in white

Thanks Suzer,

It nice to know that there is at least 1 other person (besides all those Italians in their Ferrari's) who appreciates the quality of red dream machines.

Red was a ferrari colour for speed. In order to introduce your view i am putting some picks of red, not my car but ive studied the colour. Perhaps you will see it from other angle. And its from UK as yours.

Thanks N1,

Nice pictures.
I hope my E91 looks just as good.
Any idea where the pictures came from?

I notice it is a UK machine. Is e.r rare in Portugal as well as the USA?

Hey 0003SAS,

don't think twice, you made a stomach driven choice after seeing electric red in person. Perfect choice.

Don't care about what others might have chosen, you ordered a fantastic yet unique colour.

Xou might take a look here, there is also a red e91.

My stomach tells me to get lemans blue though...

Cheers

0003SAS: You're forgetting that (and generally speaking) the U.S. market (esp luxury car market) tend to be more conservative in taste/preferences...that's why most automakers often stick with bland color/interior colors (e.g. lots of silvers, blacks, whites and blues on offer with black/beige/grey etc). because of this, even the most adventuresome individual often doubt themselves in color choices for resale considerations...

BMWs in recent years have begun to offer wildcard choices for exterior/interior e.g. red interior in the e46, green leather, blue leather (e65 only I think), amethyst metallic on e60 etc Even MB is offering blue leather...

I think the UK market can stomach a red e90...remember in the 80s and early 90s the pinkish-red metallic was rather popular for Mercedes-Benzes (iirc mostly on W-124s and 190e) ... love that color.

003SAS thanks. The pics are in one forum E90 perhaps if we search 320d M , i was looking for pics of my 320d M but other colour ive found red. If you are in doubt it happens, we choose but the car is in pictures, alive is other thing. In red its very present, the only arguement against is that is a colour wich cannot have much sun and in portugal, 9 months sun i cannot choose red, but its a great colour.
The seats will make the contrast. Congrats great BMWWWWWWWWWW lol.

N1,

You are making me jealous. We don't have to worry about the sun as we only get 3 months over here, with the rest being rain or snow
At least the e.r won't show the rust!!

Its very nice and bright, full Some positive aspects of this colour Some of the negative aspects of this colour
Courageous Fearful
Pioneering spirit Fear of progress
Leadership qualities Ruthless
Strong willed Brutal/ Aggressive
Confident Domineering
Energetic Resentful
Determined Self pitying
Spontaneous Obstinate

Red is the lowest of the seven colours in the visible spectrum and is known as a "warm" colour. It is stimulating and energising therefore it is helpful for tiredness and lethargy, to stimulate low blood pressure, to boost sluggish circulation. NB Red should not be used on anyone, with hypertension/high blood pressure since this colour increases blood flow. (That is to say as a colour treatment). Pink may be used instead in such cases.

Red, in its most positive sense, is the colour for courage, strength and pioneering spirit. However, in the most negative aspect, it is the colour of anger, violence and brutality and, interestingly, before world war two it was noted that a lot of red was being worn.

Using colours well in the home is a way of creating a balanced environment. Red is energising and excites the emotions, and can stimulate the appetite.(Often used in restaurants). It can be used in any activity area but red needs careful choice of tone and depth and the space in which it is to be used as it can make a space look smaller and can be claustrophobic or oppressive. However, used well, red and its variations, can make a space feel warm and cosy.
As you see colour red is strong and will be seen.
In the matter of hours of sun as you know, the anti hurricane of azores protects the coast of western europe, so we have sun. But i wear a lot sunglasses and i put skin protection because sun rays are dangerous, only 2 or 3 hours day and in the morning. The cars get a lot of sun and the colours become vanished. Dont be jealous come here when you want, good food lol.

N1,

Love the definition.

I'd be over in Portugal straight away. The trouble is that I would have to leave my new e.r at home so that it did not fade!! and that would leave me with a

Anyways, make sure to post loads of pics!

Thanks for the compliment on the MGB, you seem to be the first to notice.

I bought it from a from our trusted oldtimer-dealer in April 2004 (my dad and I own some more), who reeimported it from California. It was completely rust free, put the paint, all seals and the interiour were a total mess!

So it was rebuilt to euro specs and got a new paintjob (old english white, I love it). I rebuilt the interiour myself. Many new parts found their way in, too.

I love the car, its lot of fun on curvy roads!

I'm planning on a trip through the south of the U.K. with it next year.
