Comfort Access issues, keyfob dead

I recently lost function of the second keyfob for my wagon and I’m super irritated. Can anyone tell me if this is a fob issue or CA issue? How it went down...

Keyfob A starts giving me battery low warnings. Change the battery (yes I put it in correctly) and keyfob stops working unless inserted in the interior key slot or the backup key pulled and inserted in the door. Ok, so swap keys with my wife since she almost never drives the car... after a few months, keyfob B begins with the low battery warning. Change that battery and now it will not work either.

I think in the 7 years I’ve had the car I replaced at least one of the batteries once and it worked fine. Seems like it would be an issue with the fob since CA worked fine with the other key until I pulled the battery. If it is the keys, holy crap is that some seriously awful electronics engineering for the keys to have a 7 or 8 year lifespan.

Any hope for these things or do I have to visit my dealer and get bent over?

Your keyfob needs a different kind of charge separately every once in awhile. A new battery doesnt resolve this — its a different charge that occurs when you let the key charge in the keyslot while driving. Just do that fir a few trips and you’re set.

I know it sounds weird, but I had to have the sercice advisor break the whole thing down for me in year two.

I've been driving it around like this for over a week and it still doesn't work. How long should it have to be in the ignition?

The comfort access key does not charge it is only powered by
the battery.
If it doesn't have a removable battery it's not a comfort access
fob.

the mashman entry's in the link above are the most informative.

If you want to charge a non comfort access battery look at the following

I might also be having this issue. I hear you have to retrain the key or something. There was a post about it on the FB page... I'll try finding it.

I can tell you from experience that there is some sort of charge (or maybe its just a requirement to pair to the car) that's required by the comfort access key fob (at least in the LCI E90s) which requires you to put it in the key slot to get "charged." I had his EXACT experience and that was the solution.

I thought the dealer was nuts until I did it and it resolved everything. That is also how the service advisor pulls your data initially as your car information (to a degree) is synched to the key when it is inserted.

Should have only taken a few rides to rectify it (if more than one decent trip). After that I don't know.

So I need a virgin key and I need to find someone that can program the key. Is this correct?

It will be hard to find someone to program a CA key.
Read the Mashman entrys and the side effects of not
doing it through the dealer.

Wait a few weeks until I get my equipment. You MAY be able to clone your existing key with a $60 tool.
