Door wont unlock!!

So i lock my car with my comfort access, and then go back cuz i left something in the car. So i hit the unlock button and nothing!!!

The car makes the ::beep::beep:: sound
And then makes the ::beep:: sound when it locks

but the doors dont lock or unlock! so now im stuck outside of my car

So i hold down the unlock button, and all the windows roll down automatically. and now its mad ghetto cuz thats the only way in and out of my car.

Anybody else have this happen to them??

in the mean time, use the hidden key to open the driver door to access your car until you get it fix.

+1 and the drivers door is the only one that will open at all until this is fixed.

It's probably a bad lock actuator that is blowing the fuse. For a temp fix, acccess the fuse panel behind the glove box and replace the blown fuse with one of the spares. This may even last for weeks but it will blow again. Get the actuator replaced under warranty.

+1 Good luck and make sure the Tech checks the amperage for all your lock actuators including the fuel lid. I've had to have three lock actuators replaced including the fuel lid.

Just happened to me this week. Here's the real kicker... my tank is almost empty (on reserve) and you CANNOT PUT GAS IN THE CAR.

yes you can, the trunk should open independent of the doors, there's a little green pull on the inside of the trunk behind the panel, pull it and it will open your gas tank

First time it happened to me I was at a gas station - raining and had about 10 miles left.

I just returned from the dealership after the second blown actuator. I am going to get a few extra fuses for such an occurrence.

What sucks is that the second time that it happened, my 1-year-old daughter was in the car seat in the backm and there is no way to open the rear doors. I have a sedan, so I could not get to the rear-facing child seat.

Man, I looked ridiculous 'rescuing' her from the car.

Well, you can temporarily (until you schedule your appointment because some dealerships need 3 - 4 weeks to give you an appointment if you need a loaner) fix it by replacing blown Fuse #57 (up to production date 09/2007) and this will let you open all four doors as well as use the remote rather than the hidden key.

Of course, getting to the fuse box without being able to open the passenger door may be a pain if you are a big person.

+1, my dealer did this but increased the fuse by 5amps. Apparently this is a BMW approved fix.

Yes, check SIB#511907. They are supposed to replace the fuse with one of 5 amps higher and then perform a lock/unlock procedure to see if you have a faulty actuator and replace both fronts if either of the fronts are faulty and the particular rear actuator of the two rear ones if faulty.

All they did was change the fuse with one 5amps higher in rating, I have not had issues since so i guess the test procedure has been met with a pass.

Aaargh, it happened again today, while I was picking up 2 (TWO!) kids from day care. I had to get them in and out through the windows. My daughter above loved to be shuffled through the window, this time.

Last time they replaced a door actuator, and I think that they also replaced a fuel door actuator with another problem.

So, today was the THIRD time this has happened, and with two kids now, it is completely unacceptable.

So fuse #57 was blown, and I replaced with a 15A and a 20A fuse, and it MADE NO DIFFERENCE! I cannot open the locks or the fuel door, either with the key fob or with the door lock button in the car. Aaaargh! I check the other fuses associated with the door locks with the fuse tester (#2, #19, #53, #56, #57) and the fuel fuse, and all of them are good. WTF?! If the fuel door solenoid blew, is it tripping the other items in the circuit?

Another reason that more electronic options you have = more failures waiting to happen. I prefer my BMW with nothing but sport + step

I have the same problem. Can I fix it myself? I really don't want to pay a dealer $700 to do something I can do for maybe $250 in parts and a weekend. I just bought the car used from a private party and now I need to look at getting the actuator replaced. I already replaced a bad fuse to get the other doors to lock and unluck, but I want to fix the problem. I want to fix it myself for the learning experience, if I can save myself several hundred dollars without screwing it up.
