when to replace rotor?
My rear break service light came on at 50k KM, I'm planning to get parts online to replace them. I got a quote from BMW to replace the rotors and pads, But do I need to replace the rear rotors now or can I just replace the pads. The car is has 53,000KM on it now

You didnt list what car you own, so Im going to give you the general steps.
Stamped on the rotor its self is the minimum thickness numbers before replacement. Read the number, grab yourself a micrometer and see if they are within spec. If they are, youre good to go with pads only. If they are below, replace both pads and rotors. |

Wear limit is 1.6mm. At that age, they are probably only 50% worn. It takes about 80,000 km to wear street driven rotors down or even longer for the rears. I replaced the front rotors on my 335 at 52,000mi.
