This is exactly what I was thinking on my way back from the work. But I could not comment as there was no evidence for it.

If you look at the mechanism, PDC module send a trigger message to CIC and other modules. But then emulators is doing the same job (I believe) and a step ahead by emulating the reverse screen.

I would suggest you to wait for jammy's attempt to retrofit and if it works, then go for retrofitting reverse PDC module. You will be surprised that its not that difficult. You could try fitting the reverse PDC module without the sensors to assist reverse camera module.

if i can grab one on ebay for cheap that may be the route i go, otherwise i'll have to sell my emu and purchase one with non-pdc compatibility

oh well..

Luckily it does!

My camera has arrived, just waiting for an inline fuse now.

With the av cable that came with the emulator -> is the black wire the -av?

He does.

I have retrofitted rear PDC on my car. Prior fitting them, CIC was not showing reverse screen despite of CIC coded for reverse sensors.

However when I added the reverse parking module, it started showing up the reverse screen and it all worked well.

Lets wait and see whats the outcome of jammy's experiment.

The company has rotated the cable to 180 degrees so you cannot use OEM BMW cable.

Finally my media card worked after getting a new cable from the company. It allows me
1- Front and rear camera input
2- 3 different inputs connectors (can be iphone, TV or anything)
3- 2 output connectors (for rear screens)

I bought the reverse camera few months ago but could not test it due to the media card not working. Here is the photo of the camera which replaces your boot opening switch.

And here is the final result.

Front dashcam is connected as front camera however practical significance is none.

I went for media card which is expensive (£250-300). But thanks to Lee who gifted me the media card.

If somebody is interested to try this retrofit, then much cheaper route is

- Buying a decent camera
- Emulator to trigger the camera (example, credit to jammy)

Running the wires from the boot to the front is the real job and rest is easy.

Happy with the results.
Where did you source your camera?

the reverse/pdc screen does not pop up for me either, despite coding $3AG and $507, unless the emulator is attached.

I can pick up a PDC module on ebay for ~$50. Then i'd just have to source a harness. Haven't really researched that, but it should be simple enough considering i'm not hooking any sensors up to it.

I'm debating if i should go this route.

I'm not shelling out $560 for bimmertech's emulator.

Bimmertech are fooking jokers, charging that much!

Waiting until I have mine installed before shelling out on a PDC module - I'll give an honest review!

I have sent them e-mails twice in the past and never heard back.

Might be in your spam folder. That's where their reply to me went.

Although another forum member reports they only accept bank transfers...

I asked them anyway just to be sure.

I checked the junk mail as well. Nothing.
Can you kindly pm me the e-mail address from which they reply so I can search it in my e-mails?
Thanks.

I don't think this emulator works!?

I wired it up - coded & I just get a black screen.

So I've checked the wiring..... I get power to the camera when the car is switched of but the car is on.... no power!? I have tried it in reverse & still no power going to the camera?

It's obviously the emulator cutting the power to it..... not sure what else to check / do

Try just wiring it directly to the cic 12v. It'll serve the same purpose.

Is that what you did?

It has power going to it when the CIC is not connected but when it is - no power.... which I expect but when in reverse, I'd expect it to power to be there?

I did it for troubleshooting purposes, bit I didn't have a power problem. It is weird that power is going to it when the car is off because CIC doesn't even get power when the vehicle is asleep

It's getting power before the car goes to sleep. I don't think wiring it straight to 12v will make a difference as the emulator is stopping the power / signal to the camera.

If I'm right - when you put it reverse the can will send a signal to the emulator to power / turn on the camera..... it looks like this isn't happening?

Further fault checks..... ensuring my soldering joins are good:

> confirmed power is going to the emulator
> confirmed signal from the CAN is going to the emulator
> no power is coming out of the emulator (white wire)

What extra coding do I need to do?... I've done the following:

macro_pdc aktiv
macro_rearview aktiv
rvc_cic wert_23
macro_l6_parkmenu aktiv

Check both +ve and negative connections.
Check can wiring again.
Take out the cic emulator out (from the connector).
If it does not work, connect camera positive to reverse positive connection and try.
