I was thinking the same thing but from the documentation I've seen (see attached SIB), the dealer accesses the PCV heater valve by removing the alternator rather than the intake manifold.

I THINK ZB# of 330i should be 8619316 (8619317.0da and also 7612455.0pa). But this is only what I found online somewhere, not sure if this is correct...I could just try to flash and see what happens.

Hey, did you had time to have a look to the files?
I just compared the binaries and searched for offsets with 00 in 8619315.0da and 02 in 8619317.0da, as this must be values of powerclass byte.

Figured out that only the following 7 offsets are possible:
00043A14
0005B6C1
0005B6CF
0005B6D1
00065FB4
000660F1
00066194

Maybe this information helps you...

edit: Damn sorry, just seen that I switched zb and file names in my post before.
8619314 is 325i
8619316 is 330i

Yep.

Remember to cycle the ignition key a few seconds before starting the car afterwords.

You can do all of them except the battery.

This will reset your emissions readiness state. So don't plan on a trip to the snag station this week.

I'm just not sure about the battery, so I am suggesting you don't do it. My E85 did not have that option.

Again cycle the key when you are done, turn on the ignition wait 10 seconds or so and turn off before trying to start the car. This will give the DME time to rest the stops on the VVL.

What car do you have? 328xi? I will have one up when I get back from vacation.
early 2011 328XiT. all black, nice option package including sport seats (paddle shift :P), comfort access, upgradeable hifi, etc. just need to get the audio and power where they should be, and some cosmetics. been put away all winter to keep salt off.

long history of wrenching on my 03 325XiT, soon to be driven by my daughter with 215Kmi.

just another wagon guy, wishing for a touring M...

oh, BTW, have a blast of a vacation.

wondered about that - seems like a good shortcut if it works, but that heated PCV hose is under the manifold, looks like. BMW service techs must have to pass a skinny arm test or something. every job seems to peel at least some skin from elbow down...

thanks for the attachment - still no letter from local stealership. my car was from texas, so i understand it will likely be prioritized. in any case, i don't think i'll do the 3IM until the PCV heater change is in the rearview. i just don't know if they'd balk at the fix if they see significant changes under the hood.

I doubt they would even notice. Aside from the two DISA valve connections, there's no difference. Also I think they are legally required to carry out the recall regardless of modifications - these cars are 12 years old now, and 3 stage swaps are fairly common.

I've reset them all, no ill effects - but yeah, don't do it if you're due for an emissions check this month..

Hi hassmaschine,

I have an E60 523i (NE32) N52B25 engine running on the MSV70 DME. I want to use the 3 stage intake manifold on that engine and run the 525i (NE52) DME/EGS flash.

After taking a few days to catch up on this forum, I think I know what is required. As I'm trying to stay with a stock flash first before trying other things, please correct me if I am wrong, I will need to do either of the following:

1. Flash the RSA delete on the MSV70
2. Flash a modified ZB#7581220 (which checks for power class 0 instead of 2) onto the MSV70
3. Flash ZB#7564218 onto GKE211

OR

1. Flash a TRT bypass on the MSV70
2. Flash original ZB#7581220 on the MSV70
3. Flash ZB#7564218 on the GKE211
4. Use NCSExpert to code:
  • CAS: CLASS_PWR = klasse_2
  • MSV70: OLULCODIERUNG = wert_02
I have thus created a project on your bimmerlabs website. But I do not see any default files available under downloads. Would appreciate any guidance from you gurus. Thanks!

modifying the power class is definitely the way to go.

The reason being is no matter what, you need to modify the boot code in order to flash the TRT bypass (which I haven't put up publicly anyway). So if you're doing that, you may as well bypass the RSA signature check for the tune, then you can modify the tune however you like.

If you've already got the right ZB# I'd be happy to modify it and put it up for you. The reason you don't see anything in the downloads is I haven't added anything for your particular model.

Ah that clarifies a lot; both RSA delete and TRT bypass are all in the boot code. I would like to do that (do both in the boot code).

I'm fairly certain my ZB#s are correct. And for my own historical keeping, I found the ZB#s via the kmm_ATSH file and ZB# to 0pa/0da files via the xxx.DAT files (pictures attached).

MSV70 (NE52) ZB#7581220:
  • 7577968A.0pa
  • S7581219.0da

GKE211 (NE52) ZB#7564218:
  • 7563275A.0pa
  • A7564219.0da

Appreciate your help with those files. And if the pictures here are making the forum thread too messy, please let me know, I can delete them. Thanks!

There's not really any reason to flash the TRT bypass, because you can just modify the tune anyway - I don't think it will stop you from flashing the GKE211?

Anyway, I put up that ZB# with the power class modified - you should see them in the downloads now.

Dumb questions:

1. Do we need to set up assembly line data for WinKFP? I've seen this step on other guides but not on the BimmerLabs guide.

2. Can we flash the stock tune if we remove the 3IM?

Thanks!

1. No - and if you downloaded it from BimmerGeeks, you can skip the parts where you import the .prg and .ipo files because they are already loaded.

2. yes - you could do this with the original 0da/0pa. I want to put those up as well, but I haven't got to it yet.. However, you could just remove the 3 stage and leave the tune, it would run just fine. I presume you're meaning if you sold the car?

Thanks for the extremely fast response! Really appreciate it!

Would you be so kind as to give my action plan (for the DME) a look over? In short I need to:
1. Append BsuActive=OFF to the C:\EC-APPS\NFS\CFGDAT\COAPI.INI file (to ensure bootsector update is forced off)
2. Import the 08MSV70.PRG and 08MSV70.IPO (required files to program MSV70)
3. Extract the MSV70_RSADelete_0049PP0L921S.zip and run the MSV70.bat (to flash the RSA Delete and program)
4. Extract the MSV70_S7581219_523i_to_525i.zip and run the MSV70.bat (to flash the tune data)

I do NOT flash the 7577968A.0pa again (as that will effectively remove the RSA Delete) right?

EDIT: I'm asking about the steps because your note "If you do not see a tuned file for your car, do NOT flash the RSA delete by itself." made me query the steps; as in my mind step 3 above is (in a manner of speaking) flashing the RSA Delete by itself.

That is correct. You only need to flash the program (RSA delete) once.

Depending on where you downloaded the BMW software, you don't need to do #2 - Bimmergeeks' download for example comes with those files already.

I'm going to get the 3 stage intake manifold installed tomorrow and then flash the appropriate files after.

Do you have a way to bypass RSA? Do you have a full dump of this program I could disassemble?

agreed.

i'm starting to regret that this car has the tricore / MSV80 ECU. is the possibility of XDF files even remotely realistic - its not clear that they would even be usable.

looking forward to a euro intake. some small gains, but much easier for air filter maintenance.

good vacation?

Finally got around to installing the 3IM and it was a breeze. Replaced the starter while I was in there. A ratcheting E14 makes the rear bolt a joke.

Flashing was a bit nerve-wracking as it's my first experience with this car. The RSA delete actually took 80 min and I was worried about my battery voltage while the wipers, fuel pump and instrument cluster went haywire. Voltage dropped to 11.95v since I only had a 6A charger (that wouldn't put out more than 3A...) but the flash was successful.

The 330i tune took 5 min. There were no fault codes other than the coding error. I reset all available adaptations except for the battery and cycled the ignition a bunch of times. Will report back after some seat time.

Thanks to all that made this possible!
