Has this occurred on a 335IS yet? I remember reading somewhere that people opt out to get the IS motor mounts which aid to help prevent this even further?

Maybe they should include some sort of gasket to separate it from reacting to the engine block. I would definitely spend the $150 for this kind or protection. Compared to what I had to pay last time when my belt got sucked it. This is a win win if you ask me. Just need more info on if it will solve one problem and create another major one.

Yeah, it looks like aluminum to me too, but I thought I heard it said it was steel. But the owner of the car is a dork (my opinion), so he may not know the difference. I was hoping the shredding belt was going to rip open a hose so I could get a good laugh...

Oyx needs to market the piece differently for non-emotional gearhead types who need good engineering data and not drama.

After watching the video, it appears that the plate bolts underneath the bedplate? Also the site states it is made from billet-aluminum.

I was talking to a BMW tech today and showing him this fix .
He told me this bit of info.

"N52’s suck the belt right in there because the crankcase is subjected to around 8” of vacuum. "

This is exactly why I don’t pass street sweepers in my 328

People have to stop focusing on the belt wearing, they’re made to last a long time. It’s leaking ofhg, loose power steering pump bolts, motor mounts that cause the belt to shred. If you don’t fix these even a new belt will shred.

Looking at the N54 block on realOEm, there looks to be 14ea. 10Mx100 steel bolts that attach the bedplate to the inner cylinder block at each main bearing and a "set" of aluminum screws that attach the outer perimeter of the bedplate to the bottom flange of the engine block. Two of those outer screws affix the Oyx shield plate to the engine block. The screw set is $40. I hope the Oyx shied comes with new screws.

Looking at the torque specs from the NewTIS, which are 15NM + 90 deg. It's probably safe to remove those two bolts adjacent to front crank opening since there are two inner 100MM bolts right behind at the cylinder 1 main bearing. But again, there are a lot of micro pulses that travel through the crankshaft of a in-line 6 that the harmonic balancer is supposed to cancel out (when it's new...). I'm probably making a mountain out of it, but I'd still like an engineering analysis of it.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
