You bet we will. Otherwise, there'd be a lot of status changes. I've volunteered for whatever I can help out with all day, but have paid as well, and will definitely be taking at least a few runs - that's the point to me, enjoy myself and help carry it on...

Roy,

That is exactly what this club needs! We are desperate for the next generation of enthusiasts to keep the auto-x flame lit. We old farts can only do so much.

And don't worry...the volunteers get plenty of track time! We are all there to run and have fun too so everybody understands.

UncleWede - just go and have fun. I promise that the volunteers are not abused! And if you decide to run, we won't tell your wife. Will we guys?

What an awesome event! Having instructors drive once and ride three times with each participant was really, really helpful. I'll also always remember the throwing of the cones in the dark to set up track.

Will there be a roster of each car numbers best times for the last event? I'm not looking for a medal, just kind of want to gauge how I did amongst the group.

Hi everybody!

I just wanted to say, first and foremost, that it was really nice meeting all of you! It was great to see all those e9x's out there!!!!

As for pics and videos, unfortunately I was really busy so I didn't get any pics. The only videos are my in-car videos which are only marginal.

Roy - I am e-mailing the final time list to Mike Webb so he can post them on the BMW CCA LA web site (http://bmwclubla.org/club.php). Hopefully they will be up soon.

I was happy to see an e90 take first place in the stock 6, 8 and 12 cylinder class. The driver, Edward Shen drove brilliantly in a 330i. He was so fast that he got close to earning a trophy in the M Modified class! If he is here...great work!

I realized yesterday that I am very rusty at auto-x. However, the car was brilliant and I can't wait to do it again.

Atilla - You were scorching fast!!! Unbelievable times man! Very well driven!

UncleWede - Are you driving next time? Thanks for all of your help!

Many of you came to just work and watch. It was great meeting all of you and on behalf of the LA Chapter, we really appreciate your support!!

For those of you who were there...how did you think the event went?

It was nice meeting some of you guys and overall the event went pretty well. We really got lucky with no rain, but it certainly wasn't warm. The coarse was great with lots of sweepers, decreasing radius corners, camber changes, ...

With such a long coarse only being able to run 4 cars at a time due to the timing system probably contributed quite a bit to running a bit long. Also during the practice sessions the timing was almost always off (during my runs and several times while watching) due to too many cars on coarse at a time. It didn't bother me much, but it is something we could work on improving for the next event.

The format for the final timed runs is a bit strange since they split every one into just 2 groups, which ends up over crowding the grid. I'm not sure why they don't just stick with the color groups for the finish as well since the color groups are already equally distributed. I asked Mike Webb about this and his response was "I don't know, this is just what we've always done".

It's too bad the intructors don't do timed runs at the end, because it would be nice to see what they are running.

Anyway I had a great time and will definitely try to make it to the next one.

I was a no show...Sorry. I had two consecutive days on a special job that started at 0300, which meant 0130 wake up and 15 hr days. The job should have taken 1 day and maybe 6 hrs, but it didn't. I wanted to go, but was way too tired, even though I was already use to getting up early. I think I slept 12 hr Fri. Plus, now I'm in San Diego for a week.

Some pics would be nice. What were the average lap times? It sounded like it was a long course to have 4 cars run at the same time.

The fast guys were running in the low to mid-80 second range. The human guys ran low 90's.

The timing was off during the morning because we were so far behind schedule. That meant that we allowed 5 on course to move it along. Unfortunately the timer only counts 4 cars at a time.

The competition end of the day was crazy...I think the reason we put the 2 run groups together on grid was to not lose time waiting for the next group. I agree it needs re-thinking.

My wife complained SO much Friday night, about the fact that I didn't take the car in for the clunks she hears in the suspension when she hits bumps HARD, that I didn't run. but I might have been bit by the bug. Acutally, I'm thinking my little GMC Sonoma stick pickup would have been very fun

Watching that blue vert and the old 2002 get around that course was great! Hearing some of the higher-powered engines wind down that front and back chutes was nice. After watching that Charger I figure almost anyone could outrun a SINGLE CHP Charger, in the hills

It was fun running out there chasing down cones. I learned a lot just by watching all the other cars in the corners. Enough that I went home and completed my B license in GT4, something I had been struggling with since just after Christmas.

P.S. for anyone I didn't meet, I was the lunch monitor.

Hi all,

That was my brother running an 2006 330i car in stock class. Nice to see everyone there.

I ran the Cooper S with my wife. It was a fun event. Anyone going to SD Auto-X on 2/17?

Didnt realize so many e90post members were out there.

I noticed the E90/E92s, but didn't really tie them back to possibly being members on here.

I was out there with my black 911. My tires were so worn down after my first run, that they were already started to show their cords. By the end of the day, they were trashed.

Having my engine in the back, with the tires falling apart, and a slick course didn't help me keep my car pointed in the right direction.

Even though my car is AWD, I was practically fighting the car from oversteering at every single corner.

On my last timed run, I almost knocked over the entire row of cones, right at the first turn out of the box.

I am registered for the SD autox, hopefully some of you guys will be out there as well.

I was wondering why the black 911 seemed to be a bit slower than one might expect. The wheels did look smallish on the car.

They aren't undersized, just overworn.

205/50/17 front and 255/40/17 rear.

It was also my first autox, and I am hooked.

Don't know why I have been putting it off for so many years. Must have been 4 or 5 years since I first joined BMW CCA.

That car looked wicked. It sounded nice too. Hopefully you will enjoy the SD auto-x. Just get there really early because they only allow a few non-BMW's. SD does a REALLY, REALLY good job at auto-x and they have a huge lot. Enjoy!

Nope, wasn't me.

I heard about it though. I think some guy tried to do a slide/drift right out of the starting gate, and ended up doing a 180 with the car, or something like that.

There was one run where I spun out 2 or 3 times though, but I did manage to get in one good drift in one of them

I got new tires today though, so hopefully I can keep the car pointed in the right direction at the next autox.
