Annoying suspension squeek

Ive had a bit of a rattle and squeak coming from the rear drivers side suspension for a few weeks, but with one thing and another ive not been able to get myself dirty.

Anyway, got under the car today and had a rive around. only thing I could find was a bit of top control arm play. Put a new one in (old one was well and truly fubard) and the squeak remains although the cars not squirming going over a bump anymore.

Under the car again and had another rive around and couldn't find any play in anything so ive just lubed everything up until I can find an answer.

Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

Chances are it's the lower ball joint that had a snap ring attachment quite common on these and various other BMW and it'll squeak as you load it up say over speed humps. It won't squirm but in the air with the aid of a pry bar it'll be an easy spot. Parts are cheap labour is about an hour and a bit(they can be slightly tricky to get off)

Thanks Steve. Your not the first person to mention it but it looked/felt ok from my limited knowledge.

I've only wasted an hour as the top arm definitely needed doing so ill look at doing the bottom ball joint. Don't trust garages at all.

Hi chaps,

I have a similar problem when travelling over any uneven/broken piece of road or bump or small pot hole. I get quite a significant rattle coming from the same area (driver's side rear), and as yet have not been able to pin-point exactly what is causing it!

Mikex101 - I will keep checking this post to see how you're getting on - hoping my problem may be related to yours!

Sounds like it could be the same problem I have.

I picked up a new bush (part number 33326792553 ) the other day but havnt had a chance to fit it yet. As it happens the squeak has gone now don't want to do it until the squeak returns so I know im fixing it.
